An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Senior Financial Accountant to join us.
The successful candidate will be working in a key role, leading a team of three accountants.
Tasks will include:
·Leading and managing the Council’s Statutory Accounting Processes in accordance with best practice and statutory requirements.
·Leading and managing the implementation of new accounting requirements under International Financial Reporting Standards, the Statement of Recommend Practise and Best Value Accounting Code of Practise.
·Providing technical and strategic financial advice and support to the Assistant Head of Finance on all accounting issues.
·Ensuring the integrity of the Council’s accounts.
·Leading and managing the completion of appropriate financial returns and grant claims.
·Representing, as required, the Council’s interest at meetings with government departments and agencies and other relevant national, regional and local organisations.
·Contributing to the implementation and development of both inter and cross service priorities to the extent of ability and capacity through joint working.
·Alerting the Assistant Head of Finance (Planning & Reporting) to any issues of a significant nature and to ensure that the Council operates in accordance with relevant rules and the financial framework including Financial Regulations.
·Developing effective working relationships with relevant customers and partners, including external inspectors, other Local Authorities, other Council Service Areas, relevant elected members and other relevant bodies.
The Successful candidate will have a professional qualification (CPFA or other CCAB) and have an up to date knowledge of accounting best practise and financial processes. With excellent team building and management skills you will have an ability to organise yourself and others in your team.
You will have effective presentation and communication skills and will be able to analyse complex financial data and present it to non financial managers both verbally and in reports.
