Senior Network Engineer
The Opportunity
For the right candidate this is an interesting and rewarding opportunity to join a well
established technical team in a small to medium sized IT solutions provider based in
South west London. You will supplement our existing skills and broaden your own
skills with a view to becoming an infrastructure architect and consultant over time.

Qualifications
The candidate will be qualified to MCSE 2003 or above and Citrix XenApp
The Candidate should also hold a qualification in a virtualisation technology, i.e.
VMware qualification and/or Citrix XenServer with relevant experience.
At least one other Industry qualification would be an advantage such as Cisco,
Storage or HP/Dell.
Clean UK driving licence.
Description
The job is primarily field based; currently engineers are at customers sites three days a
week on average. Whilst on site they will be carrying out either project based
installations or acting on support issues generated by the helpdesk.
Much of the work involves the installation and support of exchange, SQL, and Citrix
solutions to SME and enterprise customers. The candidate should be experienced with
virtualisation and SAN solutions. Familiarity with DR or Business continuity
solutions would be an advantage.
The Role is heavily customer focussed through telephone or face to face interaction.
The candidate will be responsible for the deployment lifecycle of the solution, liaising
with the customer and delivering the project to the customer’s satisfaction. Projects
are to be deployed within budget and agreed timescales.
When not on site the candidate will be office based, where they will either, prepare
equipment for installation, maintain customer documentation, or participate on the
helpdesk.
The majority of the customer base is within 1-1½hrs of the office by car or public
transport, a small number of customers have sites that may require long day visits or
overnight. The candidate must be willing to work out of hours where critical or
disruptive work requires downtime.
Experience
The candidate will have a minimum of seven years experience of project and support
work. The engineer should demonstrate appropriate experience within their
specialisation including projects, support, and maintenance.
The candidate should be a self starter and able to demonstrate the ability to work
alone or as part of a team.
The candidate will have implemented and managed solutions based on Microsoft
Active Directory, Exchange, and file and print services within a NAS/SAN
environment. They would have implemented virtualisation solutions including
installation and maintenance of core services on these platforms.
Excellent desktop knowledge is required in order to understand and address customer
requirements.
Specialisations
If SQL qualified the candidate will be able to size and install a server and be able to
demonstrate an ability to fault find and resolve SQL related issues. Basic DBA
knowledge will be useful.
If Citrix qualified the candidate will have worked on multiple server farms and
demonstrate the ability to install and manage applications, setup various client types,
both on the LAN/WAN, and via the internet.
If VMware qualified the candidate should be able to deploy a resilient multi-server
Data Centre. The candidate should be able to prepare any prerequisite dependencies
on which the VMware deployment is dependent. The candidate should be able to
demonstrate that they have installed and supported various types of Application,
Messaging, and Thin Client servers on these platforms.
If Cisco Qualified the candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to
implement, support, and maintain multi-router, switch or firewall solutions.
The Package
Salary £40-45k plus benefits depending on experience, qualifications, and potential to
fit within our organisation. There is usually good opportunity for overtime depending
on projects and only when authorised by the customer.
