Senior Project Controller
EADS Defence and Security, is looking to recruit a Senior Project Controller to provide project office support to a number of new and on-going projects. As the Senior Project Controller you will be responsible for project planning, organising, controlling and reporting on assigned deliverables within the Project Management Office (PMO). You will report to the PMO Manager, or directly to the Project Manager depending on the Programme/Project needs.
In this role you will be required to solve problems which are complex in nature and involve the evaluation of numerous factors; internal and/or external to the Programme. These problems may be of either tactical or of strategic nature. You will be required to demonstrate the values and behaviors required by the business.
Your principle areas of responsibility will be;
- Tracking, reviewing and reporting on issues that impact the Project / Programme Office;
- Working closely with other groups with Project or Programme Responsibilities;
- Ensuring processes, standards and guidelines are available to the programme;
- Actively supporting and providing input into Project Control / PMO Management Best Practice for the Business;
- To deputise for the PMO Manager or Project Manager as required, in internal and external (including customer facing) situations;
- Directing, mentoring and leading the PMO team members (Project Controllers) in the PMO;
- Proactively developing WBS to generate and maintain Project plans, work packages and schedules;
- Developing and implementing structures and processes for tracking project performance; facilitate monitoring of Project Costs and Financial Planning.
Your skills
As the successful candidate, you will have a degree or equivalent further education in a relevant field (eg; Project Management qualification such as PRINCE 2 Foundation, ISEB Certificate in Programme and Project Support Office), project/programme planning experience and should be able to demonstrate the following characteristics;
- Good communication (both written/verbal) and listening skills; an ability to volunteer and share opinions and views with internal and external stakeholders, also an ability to persuade others by using evidence (facts and figures) to justify arguments;
- Good influencing and negotiation skills to accomplish the same goals for internal and external (e.g. sub contractors) stakeholders, according to PMO/Project and business need;
- Ability to lead and build relationships within the Project team and with support organisations;
- Ability to represent the business to the customer/external stakeholders as required;
- Excellent time management skills; an ability to coordinate a number of tasks simultaneously, prioritise and work to tight deadlines;
- A structured/methodical approach to all planning/tracking tasks;
- Good analytical skills; identifying failing areas of the business across the programme and ensure a continuous improvement culture is prevalent at all times;
- Firm understanding of work package management and work package control;
- Ability to combine attention to detail with ability to see underling trends and issues from a mass of information;
- Knowledge of risk management principles;
- Knowledge of Gantt, Pert and dependency charts;
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Project (essential - use of Project Server would be highly desirable), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and preferably Access; a knowledge of SAP (desirable).
