Senior Project Manager - Utilities

To effectively manage a Major Project or number of Projects for the construction of LV, HV and EHV cable networks up to 400kV, including all associated civil engineering activities / building works and management of resources to ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently, cost effectively, to programme and to the Clients satisfaction

Principle Duties & Accountabilities
  • To manage the Site Agents / Supervisors, Civil, Cabling, Jointing and Reinstatement resources (both Direct and Subcontractor) and administration staff where provided to ensure they effectively deliver in accordance with the Project requirements and compliance with the Contract Terms & Conditions.
  • Manage Operational resource in an effective manner to ensure Projects completed to programme, budget and within required SHEQ standards.
  • To liaise with Clients and internal management to ensure compliance with Standards, DSR, Policy & Procedures and Industry Regulations and Legislation.
  • Close liaison and continuous communication with other Managers within the Business to ensure efficient operations and best utilisation of all resources in order to meet estimated outputs, deliver to programme, within budget to achieve correct financial return.
  • To be responsible for monitoring, controlling wages and other costs associated with the deployment of Operational staff and Subcontractors.
  • Compliance with CDM Regulations and duties of Principal Contractor role, ensuring adherence to Client H&S Plans, development of Construction Phase Plans, compilation of Project Specific Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), delivery of Site Safety Toolbox Talks and completion of regular Site Safety Inspections and Audits.
  • Delivery to agreed Milestones and Key Performance Indicators (KPI Balanced Scorecard).
  • Compliance with Traffic Management Act (and NRSWA), minimising Section 74 liabilities.
  • Responsible for Project delivery, productivity and overall commercial performance to achieve correct financial return.
  • Ensuring any Engineering or Operational non-conformance is dealt with in conjunction with HR and SHEQ Departments.
  • Monthly Reporting to the Contracts Manager on Operational matters and financial performance.
  • Compliance with Skanska Code of Conduct & Skanska 1-3-5 objectives for building a stronger business.


Key Working Relationships
  • To develop and maintain relationships with Clients, Supply Chain, Manufacturers and Local Authorities etc, attending internal and external meetings as required, ensuring Client requirements in relation to delivery of the Contract are met.
  • Proactive input into Business Development and assistance with securing new works, with close liaison with the Business Development Director, Commercial and Estimating Teams.


Knowledge/Skills/Qualifications Required
Desirable knowledge, skills & qualifications:-
  • Minimum requirement HNC, ONC or City & Guilds in Electrical Installations, supported with previous experience in a project management role;
  • NRSWA Supervisors Accreditation;
  • CSCS Managers Accreditation;
  • Experience of working on LV, HV and EHV power cable networks (11-33-66kV + 132-275-400kV) & electrical installations involving transmission / distribution installations;
  • Experience in Civil Engineering works associated with power cable installations;
  • Proven track record in project management and delivery of projects; Knowledge of network operations and understanding of National Grid, EDF Energy, Scottish & Southern Energy Distribution Safety Rules, Policies, Procedures, Safety & Engineering Standards;
  • Knowledge of London Underground or Network Rail power cable networks preferable but not key requirement.
  • Ability to use following IT to a reasonable standard:- Word / Excel / MS Project / Outlook / PowerPoint / Internet-Intranet.
