Company Info: This is an exciting opportunity for a specialised nurse to work as part of the multi disciplinary team and deliver a high standard of family centred care to paediatric patients. The postholder will provide clinical advice and support within the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and assist with the development of the unit including strategies for the advancement of intensive care services in support of the Paediatric Centre's overall philosophy. The ideal candidate will be experienced with the teaching and supervision of junior staff and students and will be comfortable with taking responsibility for managing and co-ordinating the ward in the absence of more senior staff.
Responsibilities:
* Ensure high standards of care for children and their families.
* Have comprehensive understanding of the Children's Act and nursing responsibilities in relation to this act.
* Provide consistent clear clinical and professional leadership and act as a role model for all staff.
* Practice multi-disciplinary team care and regularly assess it's effectiveness against standards set out in Government and hospital clinical care guidelines.
* Understand how the hospital is run as a business in relation to providing high quality care.
* Have a sound working knowledge of emergency policies and ensure that staff working within PICU are aware of these.
* To promote the well-being of children and safeguarding them from actual and/or potential harm.
* To manage nurses and nursing services; organising duty rota, assisting with operational management requirements and takeing charge of the unit in the absence of senior staff.
* Participate in and monitor Human resource needs and demands.
* To promote a suitable environment for the development of children of all ages, recognise the unique play needs of the child in PICU and utilise the play specialist.
* Seek advice where known expertise is available in a dynamic approach to problem solving.
* Monitor, uphold and promote nursing standards through Quality Assurance Programmes. Understand implications of Clinical Governance and adhere to hospital clinical risk management policy and recommendations.
* To participate in the monitoring and maintenance of equipment and supplies used in PICU.
* Assist with the orientation of all staff to PICU.
* Participate in the preparation of children for discharge including liaison with community, national and international colleagues and child/parental discharge teaching.
Requirements:
* NMC Registered Nurse (RN Child or RSCN)
* Paediatric Critical Care Qualification (Equivalent to ENB 415)
* Recent experience and clinical competence in a Paediatric Critical Care setting
