Senior Systems Engineer - MoD
Salary up to £70K based on experience
My client is a leading global player within the Defence Engineering Sector and due to continued success, my client is undergoing an exciting period of growth across many domains. As a result the client has a vacancy for a high calibre, Senior Systems Engineers to lead the application of System Engineering principles across the full engineering lifecycle in the support of a complex ground based air defence programme.
Successful candidates will be expected to take full ownership of the technical solution, providing a strategic lead in this area and to lead others in the programme execution. Evidence is required of the application of engineering and physics knowledge and experience in combination with good design and problem solving ability to develop a solution that meets the performance and cost targets and that are completed on time. Communication with hardware and software engineering disciplines and an understanding of all aspects of system design are critical.
Prospective candidates will need to demonstrate previous success throughout a full engineering life cycle, and the ability to apply that knowledge at a "system of systems" level. Successful candidates will have a desire to be challenged and to contribute towards the success and growth of the business.
Essential Experience *Proven experience of leading the systems engineering on complex projects, particularly in the C4ISTAR domain, including the planning, tracking and controlling of systems project activities together with the preparation of the required systems documentation. *Experience of facilitating trade-offs between hardware and software and deriving discipline specific requirements. *Disciplined and rigorous approach to requirements management and ability to ask challenging questions about the requirements and architecture of the system at each level of the hierarchy. *Understanding of the architecture of product design and ability to create a range of alternative interdisciplinary concepts, perform trade analysis and determine preferred solution. *Experience of improving systems engineering development quality, timeliness, productivity, and other project and product characteristics together with the tailoring of systems processes to meet business needs. *Ability to define and implement appropriate formal design methodology. *Experience of planning, tracking and controlling sub-contract organisations
Personal skills *Structured approach to all aspects of systems development. *Can communicate effectively with different levels of staff. *Focused on achieving goals with a positive can-do attitude. *Ability to compile and present progress reports at a frequency & depth appropriate to the job in hand. *Experience of working with cross-discipline teams and of guiding the work of other engineers. *Experience of managing and developing staff. *Track record of delivering work packages to cost, schedule and quality. *Ability to compile estimates and task lists with estimated resource requirements (people and equipment). *Ability to chair customer meetings. *Experience of using metrics to present project status.
