My client is currently seeking an experienced Senior Systems Infrastructure Consultant

Please see the following information on the above role:

Job Summary: To monitor and proactively improve the Groups Managed Service infrastructure and services

Reports to: Director of Technical Operations

The job holder is accountable for the following:-

Process - Assist the Infrastructure Team Leader in developing and implementing the processes and procedures necessary to build a World class managed service.

Serious Incident Management - Assist where required with the resolution of serious service incidents

Release Management - Work closely with the Change Manager to ensure that all aspects of a Release, both technical and non-technical are considered together

Availability Management - Work closely with the Infrastructure Team Leader to optimise the capability of the Service infrastructure to deliver cost effective and sustained levels of availability which exceed our client SLA's

Capacity Management - Ensure the applications are monitored proactively to ensure agreed capacity levels. Work the Client Take On team to ensure service capacity meets future requirements.

Problem Management - Assist the Problem Management team with major problem resolution where problems are adversely affecting service performance and delivery to clients on an ongoing basis. Minimise the adverse effect on the Managed Service of Incidents and Problems caused by errors in the infrastructure and proactively prevent the occurrence of Incidents, Problems and errors. Liaise with all support staff, senior managers and the Service Managers, escalating where necessary, to ensure that our response exceeds client expectations.
Service Maintenance Management - Manage scheduled service maintenance in liaison with the Service Managers to ensure that scheduled maintenance is planned fully in advance. (Scheduled maintenance must be agreed in advance with clients in line with the company's contractual obligations).

Application Management - Responsible for ensuring that our applications are up to date and supported by their respective third parties. Ensure they are configured, monitored and maintained for optimum use.

Network Infrastructure - Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Group's network infrastructure, be able to monitor capacity, availability and troubleshoot where necessary.

Security - Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Information Security Policy and be conscious of security at all times. Respond appropriately to any breach in security or security risk. Ensure that security patches are tested and applied to the services.

Reporting - Work closely with the Infrastructure Team Leader, to measure and report on any defined KPI's relating to the provision of Managed Services and also produce monthly reports for each service.

Documentation - Produce clear and concise documentation to enable the standard builds of applications servers by other members of the team. Document and maintain the written procedures for security patching, application patching, system upgrades etc.

Service Improvement - Research, formulate and recommend plans for infrastructure development including infrastructure expansion, security provision, service reporting and monitoring.

Provide clear reporting and feedback to the Infrastructure Team Leader, ensuring best practice, effective processes and appropriate skills are applied.

Qualifications Required:
BSc in relevant subject or equivalent relevant experience
CISCO qualified - CCNA etc.
RHCE qualified

Experience Required:
Considerable experience providing technical support to critical systems supporting major blue chip customers in a 24x7 Managed service/data centre environment working with relevant technologies and within an ITIL framework. Significant experience with system and network monitoring

Preferred:
Relevant industry understanding. Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes

Professional/Technical Competencies

Required:
Considerable experience in the following applications - Apache/Tomcat, jboss, IIS, VMWare, HTML, XML, PRTG, ASP, Javascript, PHP

Experience of the following server technologies - Windows 2003, Red Hat Linux 4 and 5, Active Directory. High skill with these operating systems commands and utilities.

Experience of monitoring applications including HP OpenView, Groundworks or similar

Experience of the following network technologies - CISCO Switches, ACS, DHCP, DNS, SSL, TCP/IP, NAT

Special Circumstances
This role requires work outside of normal office hours, including potential shifts that may include nights and weekends. Some overseas travel may also be required.
