My Client is undergoing a large period of growth and is looking to add to it's existing team a Senior Technologist in the Actinide & Fission Product Chemistry Team.

The successful candidate will join the Actinide & Fission Product Chemistry Team based at Sellafield, and will provide technical leadership in the area of actinide chemistry/solvent extraction/plutonium materials.
The work will involve providing support to ongoing and future Sellafield site and NDA direct work programmes. This will include consultancy, design and implementation of experimental work and will include assessment and reporting of results for onward presentation to support existing plant operations, new plant design, safety cases or new process development.
The knowledge of the behaviour of actinide species in reprocessing and waste management is a Company key capability, and as part of this capability it is anticipated that in addition, there will be opportunities to contribute to future programmes of work associated with New Build, Legacy Waste treatment and overseas fuel cycle programmes.
The successful candidate will have a key role in the development of the Company Central lab research facility where plutonium active work is carried out.
There will be the opportunity, based upon performance, to take a future lead role in this area within the company.
Assist in the development and growth of the company actinide chemistry strategy.
Contribute to scope definition and estimating of work packages required to meet the technical objectives of tasks/projects.
Carry out defined work packages to time, quality and cost.
Produce accurate records of work carried out in the form of technical reports.
Perform tasks within defined timescales and in accordance with Quality Management standards.
Use initiative to identify and make recommendations to optimise working procedures to enhance safety/efficiency in delivery of work packages
Keep abreast of developments in his/her own field, applying them to designated work packages to develop the capability within the Actinide and Fission Product team.
Work with key scientists within the team with a view to establishing new work streams and identifying future opportunities to maximise the use of resources and facilities including developing collaboration programmes with national and international research groups.
Essential Skills/Qualifications
A PhD in Chemistry with a proven track record of work in an actinide / radiochemistry/ solvent extraction field.
Proven aptitude for problem solving.
Good communication and team working skills.
Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Familiar with Microsoft computer software.
Proven ability to generate new business and workstreams
Desirable Skill/ Qualifications
Knowledge of nuclear reprocessing technology.
Experience in design of experiments involving radioactive material.
Ability to communicate clearly with a non-specialist audience.
Appreciation of cost control systems.
