Our client based in Dartford is looking for an experienced Service Engineer.

Reporting to the Engineering Director and occasionally the Works Director, this role has the responsibility for troubleshooting, fault finding, corrective and preventative maintenance for machine tools installed in locations worldwide.

The successful candidate will be responsible for visiting customers to fix both mechanical & electrical faults with installed machine tools, whilst also making visits to perform regular pre-scheduled service work.

In addition to this the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of new machine tools.

The successful candidate will work closely with mechanical and electrical fitters to ensure observed faults are rectified on future equipment, whilst also working with PLC programmers to improve the efficiency of the machine control systems.

When not working off-site, the successful candidate will be expected to assist in the final mechanical/electrical assembly of machine tools along with initial commissioning of machines. In addition to this, there will be a requirement to assist in the operating of manufactured machine tools for preparing customer samples.

Main duties/responsibilities:

  • Provide emergency assistance for customers to remedy any faults on their machine.
  • Plan, prepare and implement routine service work for customers with preventative maintenance contracts.
  • Plan, prepare and implement machine installations at customer premises.
  • Manage costs for performed service visits and report expenses to admin staff for invoicing.
  • Liaise with production and admin staff to ensure spare parts are available for service work.
  • Final assembly of machine tools
  • Commissioning of finished machine tools
  • Testing of finished machine tools
  • Operation of finished machine tools for preparation of customer samples.

Equipment and Software used:

·Company owned laptop computer and mobile phone

·MS Office ( Excel, Outlook, Word and Power Point)

·SAP Business One

·Siemens Step7

·GE Fanuc FAPT Ladder 3

Qualifications and education required:

·Minimum HNC qualification in a related engineering field.

·UK driving licence

·Authorisation to work in the UK, Europe, Singapore and USA

Experience required:

·Knowledge of typical mechanical systems used in machine tools and the ability to disassemble/assemble such mechanical elements whilst working to high tolerances.

·Knowledge of typical electrical circuits and components used within machine tools and the ability to fault find within such systems.

·Knowledge of PLC control systems with the ability to fault find and modify small elements of code if required

·Self motivated, confident and enthusiastic

·Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks with potentially conflicting requirements

·Excellent communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with the strength of character to keep self and colleagues focussed on objectives

·Adaptable and flexible to cope with the changing needs of clients

·Ability to identify opportunities for the company

·Strong organising and coordinating skills
