Whitehall Resources require a Service Transition Manager with Wintel Expertise for a Utilities Project.
The successful candidate will have significant Operational and Management experience working within a Wintel environment. And have a proven background working within a Service Transition and ITIL environment.
Skills:
- Must be familiar with and confident managing the technologies used within the organisation.These are predominantly Microsoft (servers, desktops and development tools), but there are a number of legacy technologies and external packages.
- Minimum of 7 years experience of operating within a WinTel environment.
- Minimum of 3 years experience of managing a WinTel environment.
- Must have worked in an organisation where the Service Transition is a distinct function (separated from the development or operational functions).
- Detailed familiarity with the ITIL v3.0 concepts and processes.
- Detailed understanding of what is necessary to run a stable, highly dynamic WinTel environment.
- Detailed understanding of the function and ability to effectively manage resources performing:
- Configuration and release
- Change management
- Capacity management
Description:
- The Service Transition Manager will hold overall accountability and responsibility for ensuring the production and non-production estates remain available and serviceable.
- This position requires an individual that is dedicated to and obsessive about maintaining the estate in a healthy condition to ensure an excellent service is provided to both the business end users of the production environment and the development & test teams using the non-production environments.
- The Service Transition manager has to be comfortable operating in a vigorous, dynamic situation where there will be many competing priorities and a pragmatic, highly delivery focussed attitude is essential.They will be customer focussed, with a high bandwidth and able to maintain the quality \ delivery balance.
- To ensure the overall estate is maintained in a serviceable and available condition.
To be the service provider to development & test teams ensuring that their requirements for environments is understood, planned and delivered in line with project plans and business priorities.
To provide management and leadership to the technical teams to facilitate the delivery of servers \ environments.
To manage the schedule for changes to the environments ensuring that an appropriate level of change happens and that the environment is not put at risk.
To ensure that the appropriate level of documentation is maintained to give the required level of control of the environments.
To develop and optimise the whole environment management function to ensure appropriate tools are used, to install efficient processes and to rationalise the estate to make best use of the assets.
Have overall responsibility for the smooth transition of application services from the development to the production environments.
- Be the point of contact for development & test managers’ environmental requests and issues.
- Manage the overall provisioning and scheduling of non-production environments.
- Manage and negotiate any scheduling conflicts and make sure appropriate communication always happens.
- Ensure the appropriate monitoring and alerting is in place and that an effective communication \ escalation regime is installed to react to alerts.
- Actively manager the long term health of the estate by ensuring the technology roadmap is in place and delivered and appropriate patching regimes are in place.
- Be the focus for incidents affecting the estate and drive the resolution of these issues to conclusion.
- Be the focus for root cause analysis \ problem management initiatives regarding the estate.
