This is a unique opportunity for a developing signalling engineer to gain experience in a wide range of multidisciplinary railway projects. The candidate will support the Systems Development group of our Rail Systems Consultancy division on our varied portfolio of projects. Day to day activities will include metro signalling design activities, including leading small projects. There will also be considerable opportunity to contribute to various multi-disciplinary projects.

Responsibilities
The candidate would be based in our London Office and would undertake design management for small projects, reviews of signalling design undertaken in several locations around the world, and small amount of design, as well as participating in other consulting activities. As their experience grows the individual will take on greater technical and managerial responsibilities. Progression will be governed by individual ability and ambition. Typical responsibilities will include:
  • Technical investigations and analysis
  • Development of design solutions though calculation, drawing and reasoning
  • Project management Liaison with client teams, and colleagues across the Atkins group
  • Use of simulation packages
  • Preparation of technical notes, reports and presentations
  • Assisting with preparing bids for new work


Requirements
  • Spent time in a design office undertaking London Underground signalling design works.
  • Familiar with LU signalling principles
  • Familiar with LU signalling design process and documentation
  • IRSE license required
  • A good engineering degree in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering or similar is desirable.
  • High standard of spoken and written English
  • High standard of computer proficiency, covering Microsoft Office software (in particular Word and Excel) and a working knowledge of CAD (ideally Microstation) software.
  • The work will be based in London but there will be an occasional requirement to travel within the UK and abroad.
  • Keen to continue to develop their understanding of train control systems.
  • Willing to work out of hours and at nights to support occasional site visits
