This is an exciting time to be in GE Energy. GE Energy Services Engineering has more than 1800 engineers in 45 locations within 17 countries. We lead in technology fields from turbine and generator technology to sensors, controls, meters, and many other products. Within the Software Solutions Group, we develop software products supporting power generation, transmission and distribution right through to end-user metering, and monitoring and diagnostics.
The need for new technologies to help drive a cleaner, smarter energy continues to grow at a rapid rate. The Software Solutions Group (SSG) is an integrated part of the solution that will help deliver these world-class energy products to GE customers.
Role Summary/Purpose
Essential Responsibilities
This role encompasses the following:
? Responsible for Smallworld Software support team covering release builds, developing Magik development and test tools and SW Support (as needed by release streams).
? Responsible over viewing support provided by Transmission & Distribution (T&D) IT team
? Establish a centralised build service and, as a development tools specialist, provide ongoing support to the development organisation for our development environment and tools.
? Employ test driven development methodology to build quality software deliverables to customer environments.
? Participate in the full range of software development deliverables including estimation, design, code, testing, and documentation as part of an agile software development team.
Qualifications/Requirements
? Demonstrated successful experience in software configuration and build management experience gained in a software house (not consultancy) environment.? Demonstrated successful experience in a leadership position for a team of engineers.? Demonstrated successful experience using Unix & Windows scripting development (perl, shell & batch) and CGI scripting technologies (e.g. Perl, PHP) and administration of ClearCase, ClearQuest and UCM.? Experience of ANT and Unix, Linux, Windows User and server administration and support.? Must be focused on the delivery of customer value, in the form of executing software that meets the customer's needs; measures processes and performance through the customer's eyes.? Clearly demonstrates depth of technical expertise, and habitually provides technical supervision and mentoring to less experienced engineers.? Exhibits solid leadership skills and takes a pragmatic and inclusive approach to solution delivery.? Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and clearly, in writing and/or orally, both in one-on-one and group presentation situations; displays good interpersonal skills - is accessible and approachable.? Demonstrates a strong sense of team; can energize teams through inclusiveness and connection with people; breeds positive morale, loyalty and commitment.? Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering with proven software expertise.

? Experience of multiple development methodologies e.g. test-driven development, Agile.? Smallworld/Geospatial/Magik product suite experience is strongly preferred.? It is highly desirable to be able to demonstrate all or some of the following technical skills: RCS Use & Administration; Java development/support experience; Mercury QualityCentre use, development, integration; Microsoft MSI installer; Eclipse; EMACS; HTML; Oracle; MSSQL; Citirix end user configuration and use; VMWare end user configuration and use; RequisitePro administration experience.? Certified Scrum Master.
