This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of data centre facilities and the day-to-day management of data centre installations/ deployments for both customer and IHS core infrastructure.
Key Results Area
?Perform installation of hardware, OS and software in order to deliver services to IHS internal and external customers.
?Participate in Implementation departments work with a focus on hosting solutions
?Technical Contact for deployment of single server hosting solutions and hardware upgrades to existing services
?Plan and implement hardware upgrades of existing server and network kit
?Interface with business customers to provide service to customer satisfaction. Liaising with business customers for satisfactory implementation and handover of solutions
?Holistic understanding of hosting platforms from Firewalls, loadbalancing, vlan switching and server operating system environments
?Interface with internal customers on technical projects such as systems and networks change controls and deployment of systems and services
?Within each team and the department; maintain a clear culture of responsibility, ownership and accountability.
?Resolve queries from engineering staff within the organisation to enable them to complete tasks
?For operational reasons, record and maintain all completed schemes / schedules onto database to ensure records are up to date for all users
?Maintain safe working practices in respect of signing/guarding, safety of individual, colleagues and public in the data centre environment
?Contribute to the design and implementation of best practice standards for the management of all the IHS data centres (logical).
?Ensuring there are documented processes within the teams for the smooth running of the services
?Provide troubleshooting and specialist support to the NOC for issues relating to the IHS data centres and associated infrastructure
Knowledge/Skills and Experience
?Ability to work under pressure whilst maintaining a professional attitude and positive outlook.
?Familiar with internet technologies and protocols such as web, mail, TCP/IP, VPN?s, Firewall technologies
?Exposure to network routing or CISCO hardware
?Knowledge of best installation practices for Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems; including applications such as SQL and IIS
?Exposure to VMware based hosting solutions
?Server hardware, SCSI, iSCSI, RAID, SAS, HBA, HP Proliant Servers, IBM
?Strong customer service and client relations skills
?Practical skills in the following data centre skills:
oPower management
oCooling technologies
oCabling: Fibre/Cat5e/Cat6
oRack craft
