| | Job Id: 45993016 | Swimming Teacher (Casual) - Ref 10/mlcst | Salary: £10.07 - £10.07 | Location: Dumfries & Galloway | Job Reference: Totaljobs/DGA0036 | Job type: | Date posted: 24/11/2009 18:03 | Job Description In conjunction with Scottish Swimming, Dumfries and Galloway Council aim to encourage more people of all ages and abilities to actively participate in swimming lessons and aquatic disciplines.
Based at the Merrick Leisure Centre to provide cover for holiday and sickness cover, you will be responsible for instructing Rainbow Swimming Scheme lessons and assisting with the administration and promotion of the Scheme. Instructing will usually take place during the evenings but some weekend working may be required for which this rate of pay is inclusive. Activities: 1. To prepare the teaching area/class.
2. To administer teaching sessions which will include maintenance of class registers.
3. To submit progress reports and statistics as required by the Swimming Pool Manager.
4. To ensure thorough and timeous personal preparation for each session and that lesson plans and coaching programmes are planned and are sequential, utilising the schemes of work.
5. To respect the talent, developmental stages and goals of each individual participant thereby enabling them to reach their full potential.
6. To operate within the rules and spirit of the Rainbow Swimming Development Scheme.
7. To advise, support and offer encouragement to all participants, promoting a positive, active participation in swimming lessons while being a positive role model for Dumfries and Galloway Council and the sport of swimming.
8. To treat all participants equally within the context of the activity, regardless of ability or any other factor.
9. To supervise, encourage and direct the work of Assistant Swimming Teachers.
10. To ensure that all activities within the responsibilities of this post comply with Dumfries and Galloway Council Health and Safety Policy, providing first aid treatment as necessary and appropriate.
11. To undertake training as required.
12. Any other duties commensurate with the level and nature of the post as required by the Corporate Director for Education and Community Services.
Requirements
A current ASA Level 1 or Level 2 Swimming Teacher Certificate is essential. Possession of the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Award is beneficial but not essential. Knowledge and experience of swimming teaching is essential. You must have good communication skills, an enthusiastic and pleasant manner and experience of working with young people.
