Transport/Warehouse Distribution Manager
LOCATION: Derbyshire/South Yorkshire
SALARY AND BENEFITS: £35 - 45,000 plus benefits
COMPANY INFORMATION:
A long established highly successful business who are well known for their ability to grow year on year and offer a full retail service from product manufacture through to customer delivery. A company that opens new stores year on year and is a market-leader in their own industry sector.
YOU MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- Understanding/experience of warehouse/distribution function
- Understanding/experience of a transport dept
- Worked in a working environment where you were involved in organising deliveries and drop offs plus collection of goods
- Experience of/ understanding of routing and planning vehicle delivery routes and working out loading sheets
- Worked with / understanding of Tachographs and transport legislation (drivers hours)
- Dealt with recruiting agency drivers, interviewing drivers, dealt with disciplinaries etc
- Experience of car/van rental costs and dealing with rental firms
- H+S experience
- Knowledge or exposure of buying and selling existing fleet
- Experience of vehicle servicing and maintenance
- Exposure to an environment that has retail stores and warehouse function
- Direct experience of a fast moving FMCG environment where products are either manufactured or bought in from abroad, and sold through retail stores and distributed direct to customers
- An interest in and understanding how a large successful business works and how all the departments function - a keenness to walk the shop-floor and find out how each dept works/runs and contributes to the customer driven organisation
- A desire to start in one dept of a business and be mentored in all key areas of the business across Transport, logistics, warehousing and distribution.

IDEALLY YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
- A strong desire and ambition to learn how a business works from the grass route level upwards. To get an overview of an already highly successful business and in time add value and best practice.
- Experience of working in a customer driven business
- Full understanding of a transport dept and how it works in relation to distribution and warehousing functions
- A keen interest in distribution, warehouse and transport in the busy retail sector where customers come first
- Good educational background
- Ideally but not essential CPC holder
- Interest in or have already obtained Chartered Institute of logistics and transport membership
- A great desire to go back to basics to get to know and understand how a successful business works, learning their ways of working and in time adding value and keeping the business moving forward and finally to step up to the role as the business grows

ROLE INFORMATION:
The role will require you to be mentored by a key person in a highly successful organisation who is very hands on and involved in the transport, logistics, warehousing and distribution part of a very successful and well known business.
The role will start in the Transport dept where you will be involved in overseeing the routing of vehicles, working out loading sheets, dealing with recruiting delivery drivers and interviewing new drivers, looking at the training requirements and new legislation regarding tachographs etc.
Being involved in vehicle servicing and maintenance and looking at the buying and selling of existing fleet. In time you will be given the opportunity to get to know how the retail side of the business works and be heavily involved in the running of the distribution and warehouse function of this highly successful and well known company. You will be given exposure to the opening of new stores, recruiting staff, handling disciplinaries of operational staff, being involved in key decisions regarding deliveries, planning and in time adding value with suggestions to improve policies and procedures. You will be closely mentored for a long-period of time by a key senior decision maker in the business who will manage, train and develop you in all areas of Transport, Distribution, Warehousing and retail.
