Due to maternity leave, this leading non-food retailer are looking to recruit a Junior Buyer on a 6 month fixed term contract to work within their non-fiction books category.
Reporting to the Buyer the purpose of this role is to manage trading activities, as well as profit and loss within the books team, to deliver maximum sales and profitability.
Your key responsibilities will be:
- To Keep abreast of market trends, customer requirements and competitor activity and identify market opportunities.
- To conduct range reviews and undertake continuous improvement of the product offer through effective range analysis.
- To create open and effective relationships with stores through regular telephone communication and visits.
- To manage promotions within category and carry out financial pre and post promotional evaluation.
To be the successful applicant, you must have strong commercial skills and proven experience of successful market interpretation. Previous buying experience is desirable not essential, as candidates from merchandising or account management positions within the books category may be considered. You must possess excellent negotiation skills as well as a solid understanding of P&L management.
You may currently be a Junior Buyer or an Assistant Buyer in a larger organisation, looking for a stepping stone to take the next step in your career.
