Job Summary:
A Web Designer for a Production Department will work as a member of a small team responsible for producing creative content for the group’s 10 websites. Reporting directly to the Deputy Production Manager, the Web Designer is central to the creation and development of concepts and design of diverse web content including home pages, product pages, thrust emails, banners and editorial pages. The role requires an ability to communicate and relate well to senior management and may involve direct work with members of the Board of Directors and CEO.
Technical Skills:
Essential:
An experienced Adobe Photoshop CS3 user
• Advanced-level Adobe Photoshop user in constant daily use of the programme
Essential:
An experienced Dreamweaver user
• Advanced-level Dreamweaver user in constant daily use of the programme
Essential:
An advanced knowledge of HTML, XHTML, JavaScript and CSS
• High level of experience in XHTML mark up
• Advanced understanding of structuring CSS including a very good working knowledge of the parameters of CSS and its potential
• An ability to work within an existing CSS structure at optimal levels and develop and enhance CSS boundaries within technical parameters
• Detailed knowledge of how to integrate CSS changes within a particular JSP
• Ability to use and understand JavaScript and its web capabilities
• Well-honed ability to identify and resolve any potential web browser issues and ‘bugs’
• An ability to identify and resolve any potential delivery issues specific to email clients
Essential:
A thorough understanding of website functionality including:
• The ability to work with a site’s propriety CMS to produce and maintain creative content. Knowledge of WCS Accelerator essential.
• An advanced understanding of the relationship between creative content and technical architecture of a site
• An ability to understand the impact of broader technical change and development on creative design

Creative flair and a sound understanding of creative possibilities for web design
• Demonstrable ability to take and execute a creative brief
• Advanced level of creative contribution – able to present and execute creative ideas and concepts
• Highly aware of the latest developments in web design and how they are used by competitors and contemporaries
• Ability to translate the latest technical developments into creative solutions for the group’s sites
• A heightened awareness of web standards and a keen interest in the broader e-Commerce sector
Essential:
Experience and understanding of the creative/web production process from brief to live implementation
• An advanced understanding of how web pages are generated and an appreciation of the key creative elements required to build a web page
• Ability to create commercial web pages, optimised for profit, encompassing images, copy and devices
• Extensive experience of the progressive artwork process and an advanced understanding of the responsibilities of a web designer within this process
Advantageous:
Knowledge of CS4, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Flash and Adobe Illustrator
