Senior Food Department Manager - Luxury Food Retailer
Job Role - Senior Food Department Manager:
To deliver sales growth through influencing executive managers and line managers within the store. This is a highly visible role within the store, which centres on driving standards through the management team based on role modeling and leadership. This role is also a key link between the executive management and the sales management teams.
Key Responsibilities - Senior Food Department Manager:
People:
- To provide outstanding leadership for the team, setting clear direction and providing feedback and support to enable great performance
- To work with the Learning and Development Department to identify training needs and ensure that these are met and supported effectively
- To enable the delivery of all retail learning programmes, including those for managers and sales associates
- To ensure that the area is effectively resourced and all risks and opportunities are identified so that clear action can be taken
- To act as a conduit for upward feedback, ensuring that ideas are responded to and shared appropriately
- To encourage effective teamwork in the area and with other Area Managers and identify opportunities to enhance this
- To ensure that the customer experience is consistently excellent in the area
- To ensure that all line reports and their teams fully understand and deliver sales and service standards
- To monitor and review service standards and measures in the area and take appropriate action to exceed standards
- To manage effectively customer complaint situations
- To ensure effective implementation of service initiatives within the area
- Increase sales productivity through the excellent selling skills of their team
Environment:
- To set and communicate retail standards, ensuring that all within the area understand these standards and deliver against them
- To monitor VM standards both directly and through the team and ensure appropriate follow up
- To ensure that every member of the team understands the required standard with regard to product presentation and service
- To work with the Divisional Manager and VM Manager to ensure the promotional timetable is met and that the agreed visual impact / standards are delivered across the area at all times
- To ensure that the area is fully compliant with trading standards and health and safety legislation at all times
Commercial:
- To own and monitor area sales and profit plan and deliver appropriate action to maximise performance
- To maximise KPI performance through close monitoring, review and follow up of actions
- To communicate the sales targets and KPI's and ensure that that all line reports and teams understand their role in delivering them
- To monitor product performance and availability and provide feedback to the Divisional Manager
- To deliver the stockloss and markdown / wastage plan for the area
- Adopt a proactive approach to their business and drive actions to deliver maximum profit
General:
- To ensure the accurate delivery of all store operating procedures and share best practice with colleagues
- To build, develop and maintain relationships with key business partners
- To take part in cross-functional meetings / projects as appropriate
- To facilitate effective communication across the store / functions
Key Skills / Experience - Senior Food Department Manager:
- General Management experience with further experience of managing managers (preferably within food / supermarket retail)
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Customer-centric
- Ability to lead and motivate a team
- Drive and resilience
- Good commercial acumen
- Ability to plan, prioritise and deliver
