TITLE: Clinical Research Physician
BASIC FUNCTION:
1. as Investigator/Co-Investigator on any clinical trials to the Unit. 2. to provide medical education in the Unit. 3. to support business planning and marketing of the Unit.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES *The Investigator role: a)to review both pre-clinical and phase one clinical data on any new medicine/new molecular entity. b)to discuss/liaise with clients on any proposed early phase clinical trials to the Unit. c)to ensure all clinical trials being conducted are in accordance with ICH GCP, Helsinki Declaration (1996 or 2000) and any other applicable National regulations. d)to screen/assist screening on subjects/patients to assigned clinical trials. e)to liaise with subject's/patient's GP on medical issues. f)to be responsible to all clinical safety on subjects/patients during clinical trials. g)to review and sign the results of clinical /laboratory data of clinical trials. h)to initiate appropriate action on all adverse events/serious adverse events. i)to attend any QC issues on clinical trials. j)to attend QA /auditor meeting on clinical trial issues. k)to review and sign the final report on clinical trials. *The Educator role: a)to provide ongoing medical education to all personnel in the Unit b)to supervise and to provide medical education to students from the nearby College, University and Peninsula Medical School. c)to assist, if necessary, the Training Department (or relevant personnel) to initiate training programmes to the clinical staff of the Unit. *The Medical role: a)to liaise with other doctors and nursing staff to ensure adequate medical cover on studies and on clinical procedures. b)to be medically on-call for the Unit and per rota. c)to maintain an adequate level of training on medical emergency procedures. d)to provide other medical duties, on rare unforeseen circumstances and at the discretion of the senior management, after consultation with the employee. However, the duty involved is only on a temporary basis and must not affect the main duty within the employee's responsibility to any significant extent. *The Business supportive role: a)to provide medical input to the Unit's Business plan. b)to assist the development of Market positioning of the Unit. c)to attend any relevant meeting which is important to the Unit's Business objectives/goals. KEY CONTACTS Both clinical and non-clinical personnel in the Unit; subjects/patients on clinical trials; sponsors
EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE
a) full GMC registration with at least 2 years of clinical experience. b) a post-graduate qualification (e.g. MRCP, MRCS/FRCS, MRCGP etc.) is desirable but not essential. c) being pro-active and able to work efficiently and effectively with a team. d) good communicator (in English) on medical issues. e) ALS certification (or capable of obtaining the certification within 6 months of employment).
