Babelgum is a new, global, high-resolution, on demand TV platform for the Internet. Babelgum redefines the TV distribution model by combining the simplicity, immediacy and visual quality of traditional TV with the interactivity, unlimited capacity and global reach of the Internet. In doing this Babelgum creates new opportunities for program makers and distributors as well as a new viewing experience for end users based on a novel and sustainable Internet video model that is open, secure, friendly and personal. Babelgum has established its global headquarters in Dublin and subsidiaries in Milan, Nice, London and New York.
Babelgum also owns and operates The UnderWater Channel, a new global online destination for people with a passion for diving and the deep blue sea.Users of The UnderWaterChannel will experience compelling professionally-produced video, as well as rich content and community functions. Both Babelgum and The UnderWaterChannel are scheduled to launch in early 2009. As part of this launch, we are recruiting for an Online Sales Executive to generate UK- based online advertising sales.
Job Summary Babelgum and The UnderWaterChannel are looking to hire a seasoned digital online advertising sales executive to build and manage advertising sales activity with special focus on building The UnderWater Channel endemic advertising category (dive destinations, equipment manufacturers and key stakeholders).The ideal candidate has proven success as a senior seller for a major online property and experience across video, display and mobile advertising.He/she has the ability to prospect and close advertisers in specialty endemic categories.He/she has strong relationships at the agency and client level. Candidate will spend approximately 75% + of his/her time focused on The UnderWaterChannel endemic sales efforts and the remaining time across the other Babelgum products.This allocation may change over time. This person will report to both the EVP Chief Revenue Officer of Babelgum, based in New York, and the Founder/Managing Director of The UnderWater Channel, based in London /Richmond - UK Responsibilities - Develop The UnderWater Channel endemic sales efforts finding ways to generate revenue from specialty dive/scuba related advertisers and prospects.
- Develop and close business with major advertisers and agencies to support the launch of The Underwater Channel and Babelgum in the UK.
- Represent Babelgum and The UnderWater Channel to advertising agencies and brand clients in the UK.
- Work responsibly in bringing the UnderWaterChannel and Babelgum to deliver on its commercial sales forecasts, projections and financial success
- Daily interaction with customers at all levels to build relationships, close business and generate revenue including sales calls, client meetings, proposal presentations, etc.
- Prepare RFPs, sales pitches, presentations and sponsorship proposals
- Communicate effectively with Babelgum’s New York Office and The UnderWater Channel’s Richmond UK office as well as with other Babelgum offices and departments
- Able to build relationships and prospect via phone sales.Face-to-face selling focused primarily in the UK (focused on London).Some travel outside of the UK as needed.
- Daily interaction with CRM tool to ensure activity is properly recorded and managed.
- Troubleshoot ad platforms and provide meaningful input on new platforms and revenue ideas.
- Respond effectively to market direction, client needs and competition.
Essential Qualifications/Experience Required - 7+ years of online sales experience and proven success.
- Recent mobile advertising experience a plus.
- BA / BBS Degree or equivalent
- Must be willing to do some travel

- Ability to work across multiple products with different priorities.
- Awareness of branding and positioning issues
- A knowledge of the dive world would be a bonus but not essential
