Networking dos and don'ts |
|
Do:
- network with people who can influence positive outcomes for you;
- put effort into projecting a professional image at all times;
- keep in touch with your contacts, checking messages and emails regularly;
- get back to people when you say you will;
- make sure your contacts know what you expect from them;
- try to leave jobs on good terms.
Don't:
- network with people you don't know;
- network with people who could let you down;
- try to network with people with whom you've got no common interest or shared experience;
- let people you work with in on your darker secrets;
- use your network for gossip;
- lose touch with your contacts.
