I just want employers to stop looking at the length of time I’ve been unemployed, and start to look at what I can offer.

All I want is a fair chance.

    • DaisyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:33 pm

I would like employers to look at the progress I have made in previous jobs rather than looking at the gaps in my employment. Living in a seasonal town, it is not easy to find/keep a full time job.

    • Giles SkidmoreWednesday, 1 Jan, 2014 at 5:22 pm

I am with you. I wish They would see we are trying to get a job by going on courses and applying for things. We are all tarred with the same brush just because we are unemployed. Some of us really want a job and need to work !!

  4. Elzbieta BielecFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:11 pm

I would like to get back into employment that pays a wage enough for me to pay my bills and allow me to have the odd luxury. I would like to get feedback regarding my application and interview so that I am aware where I need to gain additional points. Finally I would like there to be more people in employment and people who have not had employment be given the chance and opportunity to gain skills.

    • Paul FerryFriday, 20 Dec, 2013 at 5:46 pm

I quite agree like to get feedback regarding an application and interview so that I am aware where I need to gain additional points. I would like the employers to be my previous employment experience and given a chance to prove my skills.

  5. Paul LonghurstFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:11 pm

I would like the World to be a peaceful place, and to see people with smiles on their faces once more and having respect for each other and for each others’ beliefs.

  6. Michael LewisFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:12 pm

I feel a change of career might be on the cards in 2014, as 2013 has been a struggle after getting a job that really didn’t deliver what it promised. However, what is really important is improved health, continued loving relationship and long term happiness and moving house. 2014 you’ve got a lot to deliver, please don’t let me down like 2013 did, with the sudden death of a loved one, ill health and a job that turned out to be a sham.

  7. ceriFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:12 pm

I dont just want a job I want a career

  8. Amrita PalFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:12 pm

I want a new job. I want to be given a chance to prove I am good enough and not be told that I’m not hired because I don’t have enough experience. I want a job so I can help my parents out and started saving with my boyfriend for our upcoming wedding.

  9. Peter BoxFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:13 pm

Get in to a role I enjoy, that makes the most of my talents. Just like the “good old days”

  15. Sandra ChasteyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:15 pm

I would love to wake up in the morning, smile and say I am going to work today. Loving my job, the work I do and the people I work with is my dream.
And so it should be for everyone if we could really choose what we want to be doing all day every day, not having to worry about earning enough just to exist.
To truly live each day in JOY.

  16. Edward DaviesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:15 pm

A career that I can finally enjoy, something that I look forward to going to in the morning and coming home again in the evening with a sense of satisfaction that I have achieved something, no matter how small.

  17. DonnaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:15 pm

My plan to take over the world has been scuppered by my inability to find the perfect job. I have the cape, I would appreciate a little helping hand in the application and confidence department.

I want a job which pays £300k a year. Where I have to work for 2 hours a day, get an hour for lunch and two 15 minute breaks.
A job which gives me 258 days a year holiday and unlimited worldwide travel.
A job which gives me the company car of my choice. One I can change every week if required.
A job where I’m the boss and nobody can argue with my decisions.
Does this kind if job appear on TotalJobs?? I’ll spend years looking for it!!

    • sandieSaturday, 14 Dec, 2013 at 7:48 pm

I think it is time your grew up and got a proper job and maybe try to work for a living.
I just want a permanent job.

      • Colin MeadeSaturday, 21 Dec, 2013 at 8:26 am

        Well said.
Its people like that who seem to think looking for a job is a joke but some of us need good jobs to pay bills and feed our familys, its obvious to me they havent had to strugle or scrimp and save just to put food on the table. Some of us have had good jobs in the past and through redundancy ended up with nothing and now have the VERY hard task of climbing up and trying to get a foot back on the employment lader.I personaly have extensive knowledge and years of experience within my field but just cant seem to get my foot on that elusive ladder but I wont give uo hope 2014 might be the year when that ladder stops right at my feet…

    • Ghazwan AntoineTuesday, 17 Dec, 2013 at 11:10 am

      FX – Foreign Exchange
Open an account with any broker / put £20,000 deposit, then BUY 3,000,000 USD/CHF and leave it for 1 year, you don’t need to work even that 2 hour a day you mention. … by the end of the year close your position and take the profit … this would be between 400k-550k … wallla

  21. Joanne DaviesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:16 pm

I would just love to see myself in the job that I want in 2014.

  22. Antonio J. CalvilloFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:16 pm

I want to find a place where I can help to do the things better, where my workmates will be honest and good persons and where I will be able to develop myself.

    Best Regards

  23. HannahFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:17 pm

I LOVE living in London – the history, the opportunities, the exhibitions, the food, the theatre…. the list goes on.

However, I think we’d all be that bit happier every day if people were more friendly and happy.

During the Olympics the vibe was so much more positive – people were talking doing the unheard of like talking to each other on the tube 🙂

I would like to see that same Olympic atmosphere in London in 2014 (if it’s possible without Mo Farrah and Usain Bolt!).

  24. Emily BarnicoatFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:17 pm

Having studied hard this year to get my PM qualifications I would like to really progress my career next year. Its all every well seeing on the page but having a chance to put it all into action would be amazing!

  25. Erika BlazicFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:18 pm

I would like to see more investments into my country, which will lead to new employments, also I would like to see more opportunities for my daughter to win some scholarship abroad….I would like to give more help to others, just to see more smiling faces instead of concerned. I would like to see more peace in my country as well as wellbeing all around the world.

  26. Ben HughesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:18 pm

I would love to see myself joining a respectful company and be in a permanent, full time position. I would love to be seen as a good citizen! I would love to see my girlfriend give birth to our 1st baby without any problems! (Fingers crossed!!!) and I would also love to win this price! Hehe. Many thanks hope to hear back!!<3

  27. Michael SmithersFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:18 pm

I have tempt and covered maternity leave for the past 5 years and now what I would like is a permanent full time job where I can settle and show my employer the experience I have gain, being able to hit the floor running.
I am seeking a challenging role within a progressive company that would utilise the experience and knowledge already gained. Failing that… a lottery win!

  28. samantha arthurFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:18 pm

I want a career change, im a university graduate working in a call centre and want change that will challenge me to use my brain again!

  29. Duncan InwoodFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:19 pm

I want to see recruitment revolutionized.
How can an employer judge a potential employee by a bit of paper?
Why do I do have to travel miles and miles for interviews when we have the technologies we have today?

    • Steve ElliottSaturday, 14 Dec, 2013 at 4:27 pm

I would willingly travel miles and miles in order to talk to people rather that keep getting rejected by a computer all the time. I have 44 years worth of experience in customer services, yet the “surveys” that you have pass on application sites in order to be able to send your “bit of paper” to the company reject me. How can “technologies” know me?

  30. HarveyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:19 pm

I would like to build a career instead of a job which will enable me to have a nice future .

  31. Emma BlackmanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:19 pm

The thing that would make 2014 a better year for me would to get my life in order and get a job that’s in the clacton on sea area do I could easily get to it. A job that helps me out in the long run and gives me support along the way and sees the potential in me not just what they see with their eyes but what they see in me.

  32. Alexandra GilbertFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:20 pm

I would like to see me starting a new career and learning more about the working world, I’d love to have some more experience and just know what I 100% would like out of life and make people happy!
I would also like to see me using an iPad Air 🙂

  33. Luke liddiardFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:20 pm

I’d like to see not so Great Britain out of the EU and pumping its money into the economy to get our farmers and butchers ect working again.instead of being a country that resources from abroad, thus giving more apprentiships and jobs to people from here in the uk. But I suppose our hard working mp’s need the 11% pay rise more than us seeking work aye.

  34. Colin WoodFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:20 pm

I would like a job that allows me to look after my family and visit my family in New Zealand. They moved away 3 years ago and I miss my brother, especially at this time of year. He’s always been there for me and I would love to surprise him by visiting. I just need a chance and I have so much to offer.

  35. John ChapmanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:20 pm

I would like to work, or alternatively use my time to create revenue streams for the next 3 years. After this I would like to be occupied perhaps part-time. Then RETIRE, so that I can build my own house by the sea or a lake or a river, travel, conduct music or play my French Horn with orchestras and music groups. I would like 2014 to be the STARTING POINT!

  36. Chris savageFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:21 pm

Looking to get into the oil and gas industry, but no one will take me as I have no offshore experience. I’m looking to work as a radio operator a position I’ve held for over 13 years in the armed forces. I am more than qualified to fill this role. After being made redundant and unemployed for the last 2 months I’m hoping that Santa can give me the opportunity I need to make 2014 a great year!!

  37. Niall HoyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:21 pm

I would love a head start in starting my own mobile vehicle valeting company, and how to keep it successful.

  38. Martin JarvisFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:21 pm

Make a positive career move , with better prospects for future development and to be appreciated more. Would be nice to be able to have weekends for me and do more skydiving !!!

  39. Matthew MicaleffFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:21 pm

I have so much to offer in reality and will achieve results required by any employer but employers don’t seem to judge people on this anymore they want to pay the lowest they can get away with and with so many people without a job the good old values are always overlooked.

  40. Andrew HylandFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:22 pm

I would like to see more employer lead initiatives that are targeted at getting more people not currently in employment or education in to the workplace

  41. stacey jonesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:22 pm

I want to be able to stand on my own two feet and look after myself,be totally independant and learn new skills to find a job I’d enjoy. 🙂

  42. JordanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:22 pm

I would really appreciate any working opportunity finding it hard to find a job and this is a great opportunity for me thanks jordan

  43. Ray KaimbacherFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:22 pm

Hi, this would be an awesome prize to win!
Definitely the career Coaching and the CV makeover would be a fantastic step for me to move in to the right direction. I am currently wanting to get back in to the Job market and advise would be greatly apprectiated.

But the main Focus for the coming year is to find a Job that pays for my daily life like for almost everyone in this Country. Plus, I have just bought a house which makes it even more difficult.

Looking Forward to hear back from you,
    Kind regards,

  44. Debbie ThompsonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:23 pm

I would like a role where my employer appreciates both my talent and committment. That with a good work life balance would be great… “Professionalism goes both ways !!”

  45. Cheyanne TurnerFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:23 pm

Constantly, I’m browsing for jobs. Having a job isn’t just about the money but also enjoying it and feeling comfortable with your surroundings. Work should be a happy environment, with challenges ahead and goals to reach. I want those things, something to wake up and look forward to in the morning. A job that will put a smile on my face and better my children for the future. I could give them the world, other than just myself. The word is a competitive place and it’s really hard but I think honestly hard work and goals such as running up that career ladder is what makes life worth living. Jobs keep the world moving forward and creating new opportunities for others. Everyone in my eyes deserves a chance, literally I believe everyone. It’s only fair. You have to come out of the rain to see the sun.

  46. LynnFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:23 pm

I would like to see that the companies would move up hearing impaired (profound deaf) people up the ladder according to their merits and make sure that the companies are fair in terms of not ignoring the hearing impaired employees just in sake of being easier to move hearing people regarding the use of phones etc. We should be able to do this in 2014..we are in modern age, aren’t we ?

  47. Daniel TurnerFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:24 pm

I would like a career that will help me move onwards and upwards. One that will help me and my wife to be have an awesome life together once we are married in June 2014, so we can afford to have kids and possibly a Dog! Woof!

  48. Robyn VickersFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:24 pm

I would love to have a secured full time job which will allow me to save financially for a child and to build our dream house in the woods away from the city life so our children could grow up away from city life and enjoy the countryside life that I was brought up with.

  49. Syeda KhanomFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:24 pm

I would like to secure employment in a well paid job.

  50. terriFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:24 pm

I’d love to be able to find the right career for me or a sustainable job that would lead me to the career path I want. I already have in mind what I want to do but it’s just getting the right first steps to do it, so I’d like to see more available jobs in horse care or equine care. My main goal is to be a full time and qualified riding instructor to lead to something even bigger. Life is too short to be stuck in a dead end job you hate so get out there, do me, be more!!! 🙂

  51. James ScanlanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:25 pm

I would like a job that will provide me with new challenges and also allow my skills to be exploited for the benefit of my new employer. I have many years hands on experience and feel I can contribute to enhancing my future employers status and add value to the business

  52. PhilFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:25 pm

A chance to have a career that pays well to live on, is something that I’d look forward to doing each time I wake up and to be able to treat my other half for staying with me through these past two year.

  53. EditaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:25 pm

Much more positive year than this one…I would like to see people using their potential, being respected and getting what they deserve. I also would like to see the recruitment process being more transparent and that employers provide a honest feedback to all candidates and that there is a fairness when it comes to the selection process. I hope that 2014 will be a great year for all of us.

  54. Miss ReaganFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:25 pm

Do what you love to do and give it your very best. Whether it’s business or football, or the theater, or any field. If you don’t love what you’re doing and you can’t give it your best, get out of it. Life is too short. We grow up to fast,

  55. Justin AlexanderFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:26 pm

I would love to get a job that I actually look forward to when I get up every morning, but to be honest I would settle for something that just pays the bills at the moment, and I can work from it from there.

  56. Flemming LordFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:26 pm

I would like automation of voice recognition software, speech synthesis and artificial intelligence to free people from the misery of working in call centres by replacing them with computers.

  57. Pratima MaharjanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:26 pm

I just don’t want a job, but wish for a career to continue in future. I want a career that pays all my bills and bit of a saving for future. I want the employers to provide me a concrete feedback after my interviews and not say that I was almost perfect only that some other candidate had slightly more experience that I did, hence was not selected. I am ready to go an extra mile to achieve the goal but I want employers to provide me a chance to prove it.

  58. Muzakkir HussainFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:26 pm

If i had the oppurtunity to win this competition i would not only for my self but for other people in various countries i would like to share my knowledge that i have learned wit them and also if i got a new job i would like to share my knowledge with my fellow team workers so i and also they could learn something from me and i can learn from them. Also i would help my family out with any problems and also help young relatives and family friends to achive a brighter future.

  59. David EdwardsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:27 pm

I would like to win this competition and kick start the new year with an amazing boost to my job hunting prospects.

  60. Sam MilsomeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:27 pm

In 2014 I wish to see myself ascend and break the shackles of being terminally without employment. I am freelance but in this day and age it just seems to be another word for jobless. Since May this year I quit my soulless retail job and moved to London with grand hopes, only for them to be dashed come August.

Since then it has been a battle to stay afloat and it has honestly ground me down. My current laptop is on its last legs and I genuinely cannot afford to get a new one, so once this is gone, so will my career, in effect.

I do not wish to go back to selling newspapers, that job almost killed me inside; onwards and upwards in 2014, for it can’t get any worse, right? Anyway, what I’d like to see next year is me starting my life, being content in a job that I don’t hate and actually applying the talents I have.

    Thank you.

  61. David Burgess-JoyceFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:27 pm

Ah, world peace, more puppies and kittens in the workplace, trousers that don’t lose their crease in the rain, the abolition of skinny jeans and Jennifer Aniston’s sudden desire for a bespectacled, slightly balding, 49 year old guy from Merseyside! All these things I want in 2014. Other than Jennifer, I doubt any will actually happen, but in their stead I’d love a job where I make a real difference as opposed to one where action-less meetings are prevalent. Because, as we all know, meetings are where minutes are taken and hours are lost!

  62. Andrew WindsorFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:27 pm

I would like the opportunity to share my knowledge and help that person to grow aswell as develop my career with what I can offer an employer. Positive attitude with a positive mind.

  63. Laura FurnivalFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:28 pm

I would love to have a job which meant I could spend more time with my son and partner, my little boy Reggie means more to me than anything and he’s growing up so quickly. I would also love to earn enough to take him on holiday, perhaps Disneyland, as he’s never had a holiday. I pride myself in knowing I have worked hard to get where I am, but being a full-time working mother, does have it’s downsides 🙁 here’s to a Happy Christmas one and all! 🙂 x

  64. Simon ClarkFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:28 pm

I want a new job where I am challenged, valued and respected, oh and paid regularly. In return I will give my all to my employer and colleagues.

I had an amazing career back home, I was the youngest manager in a big international company for 4 years, but my husband and I were looking for a better life to start a family, so we moved to the UK. Now we have to build everything all over again, starting with a job, a house, and a family. Getting a job is the first on the list for 2014!

  66. Michael PhillipsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:28 pm

at a career cross-roads looking for a fresh start, a better quality of life and work-life balance that will enable me to add many years of corporate life experience to sectors and companies that could previously ill afford me to help them improve and allow me to spend more time with family, which will hopefully be a win-win scenario for all parties.

  70. JamesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:29 pm

I would love nothing more than to find the career that is for me. I would like a job as a recruitment consulatantn. The job profile fits me perfectly along with my 12 years of management experience. “Someone please give me a chance”.

  71. Honeybee35Friday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:30 pm

2014 would make for a better year for me if:

    1. I could have the brains of Barack Obama
    2. The body of Rihanna
    3. The wit of Alan Carr
    4. The voice of Kate Middleton
    5. & the luck of the Irish.

A few months without having to see Kim K and Kanye W all over the place wouldn’t go amiss either. (Well, a girl can only wish!) I’m still trying to work out why they have so much media value – do they secretly conduct life-saving surgery or something? Answers on a postcard, twitter or facebook please!

  72. Martin BakerFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:30 pm

I want my baby boy to be born safely and healthy, and be in a job where my wife can choose whether she wants to work or be a full time mum.

    • beckySaturday, 14 Dec, 2013 at 11:18 am

Ahh, I think Martin and Wife should win something and that Mps should take a DECREASE in wages😉 so British people can reap rewards especially NHS workers 😊 firemen and maybe police 😔 we would have more to spend in British economy if we had better paid jobs… Obviously no ones going to be spending when there’s nothing left after paying for essentials, where as MPs can claim it on their expenses!!

I’d like a role where I can contribute to the success of the organisation and the people I work with.
I look for roles with autonomy and stretching goals enabling me to think differently and utilize skills and experience: gained in my career to date, to deliver solutions meeting or exceeding expectations.

  76. Lizzy. CFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:31 pm

I would like to see people making the most for themselves in 2014. We can all sit doing a dead-end 9-5 job just because we have to, but wouldn’t it be great if everybody could have a job that they not only need, but instead have one that they actually love?! Live to work, don’t work to live!

  77. Peter gregoryFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:31 pm

I’d love to have a career change to help support my family and be a proper dad. I wish we could all show employers what we can do other than looking at Cv’s. My grandad once told me in the 40’s he walked out of 1 job straight into the next, let’s bring them days back and give everyone a chance.

Hmmmmmm… What do I wish to see in 2014.

There are many things I would love to see in 2014. This includes witnessing a sunny summer vacation. I realise the summer of 2013 was pleasant however, I would truly love if Summer started in March 2014.

I would love to see a train not delayed or arriving early at a train station. I crave an early train or bus!

But most importantly I would love to see one person’s employment status change for the good.

  86. Asha MangulFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:34 pm

I recently read TotalJob’s ‘Inside Job’ article about whether younger or older individuals experience find it more difficult to find work. The answer was, of course, that both groups have experienced difficulties. I would like to see more open-mindedness and fairness, and less discrimination with regards to younger/older jobseekers. Everyone should have a fair chance to prove themselves, use their skills, and earn a living.

  87. MichelleFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:34 pm

I Would love to have a job that’s 9-5 mon-fri and have a weekend off for a change but all I do is silly hours that I don’t get enuff sleep, and I keep saying to my fiance that I would love to open up a homeless centre to help homeless people get housing quickley as I hate seeing homeless people out there on the streets at this freezing time of year and its just such a shame how some people don’t get to see there family at christmas as they have either fallen out or passed away I would love to have a big enuff house to say come on in for christmas.iam always thinking of others in that sense iam very throughful but you get some people that are very nasty and just think of them selves I don’t understand why the world is so stubbarn. But I would love to help the homeless as the old saying is get sent to coventry the only shame is I live and was born in coventry.

  88. Kevin SmithFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:34 pm

I want to stop employers being so negative for goodness sake. Just because I had a brain operation and am 57 does not mean I can’t still work. Good job my enthusiasm and great positive attitude is still with me – otherwise I could just shoot myself!!!!!!!! (well, after Christmas anyway)

  90. Magdalena PelakovaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:35 pm

I want to be happier in 2014!… whether I will find my dream job or not. I want to appreciate every opportunity that will be given to me and learn from my mistakes, so I can do better next time.
I believe that if I will not give up searching, eventually there will be an employer who will give me THE chance. That is the only thing I need to prove, that I am as good as those who are working in my field.

  91. Lisa joanne clarkeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:35 pm

I would like to finish my open university degree at the age of 39 and continue with my voluntary work to gain experience in my new chosen career. My career until now has been in litigation, however my degree is in social science as I am interested in helping society. My voluntary work consists of working for a Police Crime Commissioner and Hate Crime Services. I would love to find a rewarding career within social order and social justice when I complete my degree.

  100. Carl TriggsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:37 pm

Hell a new job would be nice and an outside look at how I could improve my job search. However I would rather work for myself running personal effectiveness courses and psychiatry recovery workshops. If you let me run effectiveness course for you your going to need the psychiatry recovery workshop afterwards. I than would be able to feed the kids more than once a week and not shock the neighbours when I wear trousers to work, not just a shirt and tie!!

I have always been self employed and mucked about with work, I’d like to wake up in the mornings and no I’m actually going to work, instead of getting a phone call telling me there’s no work. I have applied for so many jobs on total jobs and I have had no luck. I’d like to be full time employed and no that I would be getting money every month. So that way I could actually work out what’s what. So I would love the chance for this opportunity.

    Thank you.

A world that allows people to follow their dreams and be rewarded for their hard work, dedication and self sacrifice. A society that understands that nothing in this life is for free, and finally for the people of this world to understand that respect is earned by the living, and only paid to the dead, it is not a currency

Merry Christmas to you all & may 2014 allow for your dreams to be realised

  110. Leon LafayetteFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:40 pm

I decided to leave the world of wage slavery this year and take the plunge and go self employed. It’s difficult and I am struggling with finances but with a little hard work, a bag of self motivation and a cup full of dedication oh and not to forget the prize money :p I should be able to tackle 2014. My goal for 2014 is to stay strong and earn enough to pay my bills and begin to grow a healthy income. Bring on the challenge and the money!!! Please!? Pretty please!?

I want to see more jobs that are suitable for me.

  113. BenFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:41 pm

Well all I can say about 2013 job wise has been horrendous! First of all being made redundant for the third time (still only 28) hurt like hell and knocked my confidence to ground zero!!! After securing a job with EON and being in my 2nd week of training I thought things where looking up until I was let go due to a technicality on my CRB (it had an unspent conviction on) I’ve never even been inside a police station! Once I’d spent months getting my record corrected (no apology given even tho someone else’s mistake had cost me my job! Again I was down and finally secured another role in November only to be told the day before I started that I had to complete a credit check (my score was obviously bad after falling behind on credit card payments, since I was out of work) I failed the check and lost the job before I started!

So for 2014 all I want is to get a job and keep it! I’ll scrub toilets, clean streets, even wipe the elderlys bottoms aslong as it means I have a place to go to each day and call work.

IT’S NOT BEEN THE BEST TIME,
    OVER THE PAST YEAR,
    PLENTY TO BE SAD ABOUT,
    AND NOT MUCH CHEER!

A LOSS OF FRIENDS AND FAMILY,
OF WHICH TO SHED A TEAR,
    NOT MUCH HAPPINESS,
    AND NO CAREER!

    2014 WILL BE HERE SOON,
A YER TO BRING IN THE NEW,
    A JOB, MONEY, HAPPINESS,
    TO NAME BUT A FEW!

    SO I’LL ENTER THIS YEAR,
    OPTIMISTIC AND STRONG,
    A NEW JOB FOR ME,
    I’M SURE WON’T BE LONG!

  124. StephenFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:44 pm

I really want a job and I feel that sometimes employers don’t take the time to personally know me and give me the chance to really show them my full potential as an employee all I need is for an employer to say yes we will give you a chance to show that I am the perfect person for the job. Until I get that one chance I won’t be able to plan for the future or expand my skills until I have the backing from my employer sure I can do course after course but employers want experience which no one is willing to take the chance on me to show my full potential and worth.

  125. Arno van LoonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:44 pm

  128. Barani SittampalamFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:45 pm

This year carries a lot of tragedies and happenings. I wish a safe future for our future generation and a safe country, where you do not need to be afraid who is following you and who can take you something precious away.
I also wish for graduates that they get a job. A company might expect a ‘perfect’candidate, but no one is born perfect. Someone can develop his perfectionalism by experience and lessons in failure and success.
Same for students. Give the students a better opportunity to educate, not through raising the study fees, which sometimes can be signify that rich people (with money) can graduate, but also that poor students can afford it without taking so much loan.
I wish also young people that they can afford an own home without taking loan or getting in financial crisis. If they could get better support their future might be brighter.
Finally I wish good health system based on doctors, hospitals and even in foods. I hope this can be improved in next year, so that no one has to be afraid that he cannot get an appointment at hospital. Will be funny if the lack in doctors, will lead to treatments out of the country or if the food is unhealthy in the supermarket, we have to move out into the forest to make our own organic foods 😀

My ultimate 2014 would consist of ‘An end to world poverty, no more wars, and all children having access to food and water’…but since I am never going to enter Miss World that little speech can stay in my head!! In reality I would aspire to be more successful, with a higher income and a better work-life balance. The prizes on offer would be fantastic in helping me achieve these goals with the exception of the Toni & Guy voucher, I am sure they are experts in their field but I don’t think even they can help a slap head like me!!!!

  133. Marisa ConfortolaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:46 pm

It would be amazing to use 2014 as a starting point in helping build up a career that’ll help others in the long run. Make one dream happen to allow for other dreams to take place.

In 2014 I would like a positive outlook on life, something to get up in the morning for. Seems like at the minute it is just drag myself out of bed, work, sleep, repeat.
I would also like people to be a bit nicer to each other and respect that everyone has an ambition to be happy

  143. Christopher AggettFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:49 pm

Hi my name is chris I used to be in the British Army until I left to be closer to my family. Over the last year or so I have become a little obsessed with nutrition and finding out it’s importance. This was because I had piled on weight and needed a lift in life. Since I des covered various podcasts and information explaining how and what good nutrition ment I got the ball rolling with trying to eat right and exercise again. I have twin boys who are 9 and I now coach their successful u10s rugby team. I also have set up a free fitness class which people love and is great fun and after the sessions I relay the info I have learnt to improve their know late to lead a healthier life. I have everything in place to open up my own company which does this full time. However I don’t have the nutrition or fitness instructor courses behind me or the funds to set up. I work 60 plus hours a week so have no time to do them. My fitness group is called the walking shread ! And has a few zombie lovers and I have great ideas for a warehouse type bootcamp gym that would teach young and old the importance of nutrition and train specific training such as military fitness sports and for events such as tough mudder. The key to my club however would be adventure training it’s something that the military use to ease stress and improver bonding. In the civilian world it’s constant with no break which is why I want that to be a big part too. I took my group up pen y fan this year for some it was a big achievment and some just a first and lot of fun. I want to make this a reality and take them up snowdon this year. I want to change peoples lives for the better and help people enjoy life. Depression hit me this year and it was a struggle my sister has it and my club helps. The more people I help the better I feel and I know it would be a successful business I just need help to get going. 🙂

  145. MarioFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:50 pm

All I want is financial stability, for me and my kids, nothing for free just a job.
2013 a disaster!, I like to think that anythink that starts on the wrong foot will end well, unfortunately I’ve just lost my job.

  146. Frank WeeksFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:50 pm

Employers should give priority to recruiting and and then training British workers rather than recruiting foreign candidates on the excuse of “skills shortage”. Age should be irrelevant to recruitment, only potential should matter.

  147. JordanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:50 pm

I’d like to see the Government putting more funding into Apprenticeships to give us 18+ unemployed youths a fighting chance. Too many company’s are not accepting 18-25 youths for apprenticeships because of the lack of funding. With more opportunities to learn while you earn would see a decrease in youth unemployment. With the relevant qualifications gained from said apprenticeships and with the 1-2 years contract, finding a job in the relevant sector would be a lot easier than trying to get your foot into the door without the experience or qualifications.

  148. michael cudmoreFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:50 pm

I would like to transport my office and all the people closer to my home. 50 miles away !!!!!

  149. AdamFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:51 pm

I would like that in 2014 there will be a real change to how people think. I would like that everyone will have enough time to spend with family and friends and do not have to worry about financial side of things. I would like for the society to change and start rewarding fanatically jobs which are have a great value to the society. I would love that people will start to love more themselves and others around them.

  150. Annette JanmanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:51 pm

I lost my mum in Septamber after looking after her for 4 years and now i would like to be back in full time employment. I am doing courses to better myself which hopefully will lead to a new career. You never know what is round the corner. good luck everyone.

I am looking forward to find my first ever part time job where I can develop valuable skills that will be useful when applying for a placement by the end of 2014! I would love to have a job with a lot of variety where I can make a good contribution to the success of the firm I work for. I want my 2014 to be a beautiful , efficient and productive year ! 🙂

  152. RYANFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:52 pm

So what would make 2014 a whole lot better than 2013?

Well for starters England could win the World Cup Football, rather than snatching defeat from the jaws of victory as per usual…

All dictators and warmongers around the world giving up fighting and taking up golf…

A month Python reunion (which actually goes ahead sans bickering)…

And finally the scrapping of the idea of money and I could make my living as an accountant actually counting beans.

Now that would make for a fantastic 2014!!!

  153. LoralFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:52 pm

I would like 2014 to be my time to shine in a job that I can show how enthusiastic ,hard working I am and not be told I don’t have the experience. I would like to be happy in what I am doing and gain my confidence back. In 2014 I would like to show the people that didn’t believe in me and had doubts about me, how wrong they was to act like that. I just want HAPPINESS!! =)

  154. M. AliFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:52 pm

  155. Andrew McNeilageFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:52 pm

2013 has been a interesting year for me regarding my work and personal life, having to deal with a possible life changing illness and thankfully coming through it fine! Was made redundant from a job that I loved doing was hard, it’s tuff to accept things like that when you have given the job 100% but I moved on holing my head high and I would still recommend the company to anyone thinking of working for them as it’s a learning curve not personal. I would like 2014 to be a productive year full of hope and stability.

  156. kseniiaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:53 pm

I hope if I to win any of the prize in 2014 and get a job (Priority), it would at least make my year 2014 more interesting. I never won any prize before in any contest or competition participated.

Laptop – to be able to send more CV and make more application. (Replace my old PC)
Career coaching – to learn technique and skills.
Ipad – to check out jobs vacancies on Totaljobs site.
Debenhams voucher – to get a nive outfit for interview
Toni & Guy – have a nice haircut for interview.
    Fuller CV – CV makeover.
Careers advice book – to learn more technique and tips.
M&S – to buy food when not got an job offer.

  157. HelenFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:53 pm

Firstly, l want to beat the downtrodden employment market (with a little training and my continued daily persistence with totaljobs.com) and score myself an amazing events management role within a dynamic, forward thinking organisation.
Secondly (and hopefully with a healthy income and some new tools), l want to help my amazing 20 year old daughter launch her stylist business and see her build herself a more secure future.

  158. DeirdreFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:53 pm

For 2014 I would like World Peace.. Ohh wait wrong type of competition:-D .

Seriously though for 2014 like everyone else I love a job, not just any job I would love a job were I feel confident in my position, where my ideas and work can really contribute. Perhaps more importantly I would like to work in an environment were a am able to make the odd mistake without threat of job loss, I have a creative mind so it works on trial and error!
Failing finding my perfect job, I would of course take the “winning the lottery in 2014” scenario, but I feel perhaps you lovely folks at total jobs could help me more with the first request.

  159. DiFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:53 pm

I want a new career after 25 years in the Civil Service, somewhere where I am valued for the skills I know I can bring to my employer and not side-lined because I prefer to work part-time. I want to work to live not the other way around. Oh, and I’d like to not lose anyone I love in 2014.

  160. Jenny MiddletonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:54 pm

For 2014 I would like the nicest, most passionate and interesting creative team to leave the office and come running down the street, through the wind, snow and hail, to sweep me off my feet and give me a huge (if slightly late) christmas present of the best job. Then I can start my life of pouring myself into a career which I love doing and makes me happy.

  161. Camilla ForsterFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:54 pm

In 2014, I would like to see myself earn at least £600 a week, including a basic salary and commission, helping people find work as a recruitment consultant. I would like to see my home based business which I will be building in the evening and weekends, take off and earn me at least £30,000 a month by the end of the year, as “Profits are better than wages” as America’s most loved business philosopher Jim Rohn loved to say! 🙂
I will go on fantastic weekend breaks with my friends and family, and take my mum, brother and sisters clothes shopping in London just for the crack! I will go to lots of shows and unusual outings, with friends and family, as life is too short and there is lots to do! I will also work on myself spiritually and mentally and travel to Florida, California and New York, as there is so much happening there, and we can’t take our material possessions with us when we die, just our personalities and memories! I will contribute to society and donate to my favourite charity, as it’s important to give back too! And if I win this competition, I will be a great winner, and gratefully promote TotalJobs until the cows come home! (I love sharing great things and experiences with my friends, and am a natural promoter.) 😉 Most of all though, I would like to see things really turn around for the better in society, and see the good people in government accomplish their goals all over the world, uniting with each other instead of fighting, so we really can start to see peace on earth! Hurrah! 🙂

  163. Juliet MansellFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:55 pm

I would like to be in a financial position to be able to travel to Cameroon and Sudan and help build school and provide children with a much needed education

  164. Reece RobertsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:55 pm

What i would love to see happen in 2014 is for me to get my life straight, being a 17 year old would no direction and no way to financially help my parents kills me therefore I would love to get a job in a place where i feel comfortable and happy earning my own money to take the stress off of my parents and myself because they can’t afford a lot at the moment, I would just love to be able to treat my mum to dinner or buy a nice present for my dad without being skint afterwards because then I could really be happy and give myself some direction in life instead of sticking around here feeling lost, hopeless and depressed, fingers crossed that I can find a way to get myself a really nice job next year.

  165. GregorFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:55 pm

2014 for me is going to be a year of joy, hope, opportunity and in all reality I am super excited to make the most of it.

Lucky number 13 has not been a year to rejoice though definitely one to remember and learn from. Having been made redundant from a job I fully enjoyed and had a promising future I found employment where the operations would look backwards in the 1970’s!! I split from up from a wonderful woman, I contracted optical neuritis and am waiting to see if this is a symptom of MS. Just the other week whilst driving to work my windscreen was smashed from falling debris in the high winds!!!

So having all this in one year has been challenging and if I’m honest perversely enjoyable in that when faced with adversity I stepped up and faced each scenario. Now that the year is closing and looking back in reflection I am a stronger person, more giving and fully energised for 2014.

What do I hope for in the forthcoming year, well 1) get my career back on track and earn a position I am capable of and on the at inspires, one that lets me use my talent and skills to be the best. 2) Learn gaelic!! I have never been one to pick up languages easily, I really desire to this ability and what better language than one of national heritage. This would also open new doors in career possibilities 🙂 3) Buy a Ferrari F12… Ok this one may have to wait a year or so?! 4) Love and happiness, hopefully for me but me giving more to others. The power of a smile and an ear is wondrous and seeing others get a little lift in spirits because someone is simply there and spending a little time to care. What goes round, comes round!

So really, 2014 is going to be what I make it, and I’m going to make it great…

  166. George FotopoulosFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:56 pm

I want a new job or a new career. I hope 2014 will give me that…

  167. Tarmo NiinepuuFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:56 pm

I would like to get a job which I am trained and have experienced for and in fall I would like to get to postgraduate course in Westminster University.

  168. Simon DalyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:56 pm

If the Govt would change its’ economic direction, I would like to see better job creation, followed by actual consideration by recruitment companies of a persons CV, without the 3 second glance on it.
Myself, along with thousands of others, would have the chance of giving our skills to enable better working environments for better security.
Otherwise, a decent shot at showing my own ability to someone who will take the time for it, after so long unemployed and re-educating.

  169. José MilhanoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:56 pm

My dream for next year it’s to improve my self personal and professional the way I can bring my family near me. I want a better job because I don’t like to apply to helps from the government 🙂
I only to be happy near my kids and wife

  170. Julie ReedFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:57 pm

In 2014 I’d like to find a job that lets me have a career which lets me grow and flourish in a company that appreciates me. On a more general note I hope 2014 brings good things to the people who deserve it. I still believe in you Karma so don’t let me down 😀

  171. LeoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:57 pm

This would give self-worth to a currently directionless career. I don’t know what I want to do with my life and there is so much static as to what the ‘right’ way of doing things is. The only person who has the answer as to what will make me happy is me, but I don’t have a clue.

So for 2014, I want pride in what I do, confidence that I am capable and beyond. When people ask me what my job is or for advice, I can actually have a conversation without embarrassment, certain that I do have a growing career I can be proud of. I will help others achieve and strive for better with a new sense of assertiveness and expertise found only through experience.

    Oh, and world peace.

I want to see more sports facilities and at cheaper rates! This is the best way to keep bored children off the street! It bridges the racial, religious & cultural gaps in the UK. It is also important for the health of people at all ages! I would love a job to promote sports facilities to all schools and social groups such as scouts and girl guides, make them aware of the benefits and promote these facilities to all! Sport can save the World! I am no God… but my name is Roman! 🙂

For me a new job would be great ( I think my continual presence at home every day is beginning to annoy my cat, daughter etc). But for everyone I think it’s time for the economy to get going again and in such a way that people really can feel their lives improving.

I would like to see all those jobless parents’ who have pride in themselves, to get a job and feel a sense of satisfaction that they are responsible for putting food on the table and a roof over their children’s heads. The ones who want to earn their money rather than getting it from the state.

  178. Juliet MansellFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:59 pm

  179. Ema R.Friday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 12:59 pm

This year was as unpromising and monotonic as 365 days spent living with your parents could be. No career changes, no changes in personal life; unless you count that one time a guy at the bus stop winked at me – though it might be possible he just got something in his eye. So here I was, single twenty year old with big career aspirations (I admit, I’m still hoping to be an astronaut one day), spending her days of what is supposed to be the most adventurous and colorful time of her life, living in a small flat with her parents. That’s when I decided to take matters into my own hands. I packed my suitcase (big old school backpack), waved my parents and my three cats goodbye (did I mention I used to hoard cats? Now you know) and set out on a journey to England. And here I am, after hours of motion sickness conquered, I’m finally in London, starting my own adult life. Though I admit – there are days when I still miss having not a care in the world, but at the same time I want to grow up – I want to have education, to have a job with career prospects (hopefully not in McDonald’s), to find my one true love (hey there, boys) and to live my life to the fullest. New year is a year of hopes and aspirations coming true, of truly listening to yourself and following your dreams. By yourself. With your own hands. This is the year I show to the world who I really am, what I am capable of. And no matter how many times I fail or make a mistake, I will get up and try again until I make it. I will be the person I have always dreamed of to be ever since I was a child, when I used to look up to my parents. I will make those who care about me proud. I will make myself proud. I will become a success. 2014 is the year I change everything about myself and become a responsible adult. 2014 is the year I truly start my life.

  180. Charlene JaggerFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:00 pm

I have been stuck in the same job for the past 5 years, since I left school, and I am no longer being challenged at what I do. My confidence has shrunk since I have started this job due to the role and other personal factors. I no longer feel that I am able to go out and find jobs that interest me and I would love the opportunity to get help in finding my career path and set myself up for my future. All I am after are the tools to help me get where I want to in life. I left school a bright student and since then I feel I have achieved nothing and I would just love to get the confidence to get myself out there and have my voice heard.

  181. PeterFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:00 pm

A man clicks a link on a website, enters his job requirements and up pops just what he wants. In one click, he’s applied. Back comes a reply to take an online interview, he’s asked relevant questions, he gives honest answers; yes he can start on Monday. His coffee is still warm and after drinking it, he calls his partner with the news. The sweet taste of success lingers as he ponders excitedly over the new adventure ahead. The man is you, the job is your dream, but the vision is reality. Welcome to 2014.

I’m young and I am currently doing an apprenticeship, I am going to need some help in choosing the path I want to take in terms of my career. I would like to go into a full time career that utilizes the skills I have gained whilst completing my apprenticeship, but the career also has to be something I would enjoy in order to keep me motivated to get out of bed and go to work everyday. I would like to receive interview opportunities from various companies in order to keep my options open and allow me to get the career most suited to me.

For 2014 I would like a year that I can look back on and say YES! I restarted my life after finalizing my divorce after a two year battle to date. Where I have started a new working life with good prospects and a future to be proud of!
I would like to look back on a year where I have started and completed most of my accounting qualifications along side my new job.
I know I will be looking back on a land mark year holding the hands of my three children and smile being grateful for all I have and I all I look forward to in 2015!

  184. NathalieFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:01 pm

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day…
And to make 2014 (or any other)your year, keep it simple:

    1) Count your blessings first
    2) Whatever you did last year, Do it better
    3) Go step by step, One day at a time.
    4) Create/make your own opportunities.
    5) Believe in your abilities at all times,
    6) Quitting is not an option. Keep Going.
    7) Finish what you started.

    Happy New Year everyone

Well currently working as a recruitment consultant and although I love the job and the people I work with, I really miss my dental nursing and practice management. I would love to be able to get back into this and make a real difference to those who ‘hate the dentist’. I want to be able to improve my knowledge and qualifications and be able to have easy access to these. I love the learn and earn, but need to help to get that bit further to make myself and the company a huge success.

I have been unemployed for 5 months and would love to start the new year with a new job so I can set myself up for what I want to do in the future! I can’t afford all the resources I need for this to happen so this would be a massive help!

  196. PeterFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:04 pm

In The New Year I’m going to win 10 000 000 Pounds on lottery,

    Everyone need to be happy.
    Pollution need to be control.
    Corruption need to be stopped.
Everyone must think all human beings are equal.

    Thank you….!!

I would like to set up a social enterprise to provide support and practical help to the local community. To plough profits back into the community to provide more jobs better resources and social inclusion for all. If it works in my community, to then roll it out to other communities, so eventually every community ends up with what they want, not just what they are given.I believe that if everyone who wishes to have input into their community has the opportunity, then growth and pride in their community flourishes.
After all; what would you rather have, what your given or what through your own achievements, what you want?

  199. Jordan StephensonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:04 pm

I would like to see a stable economic growth with a government package to attract bigger firms to the UK and open up a lot of Entry level jobs where people can train in to an exciting long term career prospective like myself!

  200. JayFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:05 pm

In 2014 I would like to find a job where I enjoy working and will be happy again without feeling stressed and anxious…..I would also like to see Simon Cowell wear his trousers round his waist instead of his chest Ha Ha Ha……Merry Christmas everyone…..

  201. Dave WoodFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:05 pm

Last year, after I lost my job, I had a moment of realisation (some may say enlightened) I now know the meaning of happiness and what’s needed to help others find theirs. All I need is the right job to enable the message to reach, as many of those that most desperately need it, as possible; with totaljobs help maybe I can achieve this dream.

  202. Sunny DhaliwalFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:05 pm

I’d like to see websites like totaljobs become obsolete as we are all in the careers we want to be in! Congratulations totaljobs, you will have succeeded…

  203. AndreiFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:06 pm

I want happiness and a good carrier that allows me to develop

  204. Ian carpenterFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:06 pm

In 2014 I would like to “brush” up on my interview skills, “touch up” my c.v and “roll” out the red carpet to a new career in the decorating sector. I want a career where I am happy going to work, where I can thrive in the industry, support my family and look forward in life and to the possibility of a wedding!! There’s nothing better than the feeling of security, and with the aid of totaljobs I hope to do this! 2014 is gonna be a good year and hopefully the start of something special!!! Fingers and toes are crossed!!

  205. Gianluca CherubiniFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:06 pm

I want to be helpful, not only an asset. I want to be brilliant, not only an expert. I want to be awesome, not only a smart guy. I want a chance to prove all that. And I want it now. I do not believe in luck, because it is not luck it’s TotalJobs!

  206. barry hallFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:06 pm

I would like a job that will pay enough to cover my bills and help look after my family buy also one that will push me and stretch my abilities to make the best I can be in my job but also offer the ability to progress through the company so I can reach my goals and progress as high as I can in the company

  207. Lyndall SmithFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:07 pm

The next George R.R Martin ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ novel to be published

  208. Bernard ChristianctusFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:07 pm

In 2014, I would love to have a better career life which will help me achieve my common goals of being a great computer engineer. In 2013, I have been looking for a way of expressing my potentials in the computing world and I believe this new year I will be on top of my career. I also want to work in United Kingdom because she has a great way of treating her citizens. Looking at 2014, the year is coming to everyone with great things and I believe it wont pass me by. Contrary to the life style of people, 2014 would affect me because i really want a new life.

  209. NigelFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:07 pm

I would like to see a move from a ‘job’ to a ‘career’ and to work for an appreciative employer that recognises your extra effort. Money and recognition are not the main big drivers for me, instead I want training and developing to be the best I can be. The employer will mutually benefit from that return on investment and I also have a transferable asset (skills) that I can carry with me wherever my career takes me.

  210. Rebecca YourellFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:08 pm

In 2014 I would like for both my partner and I to find full time permanant jobs. Finantial security for my family would be such a releaf after 2 years if short contracts and company’s going bust. It’s very mentally draining to constantly worry if I can buy good or heat me house.

  211. MarioFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:08 pm

I would like to “wow” everyone in my new Debenhams suit in my new job! Oh and my wife would be so happy if I didn’t have to leave the house at 6.30 every morning to drive to a job two hours away.

  212. Gwynfor HumphreysFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:08 pm

I would like a job that would allow me to put back into construction all that it has given me over the years and pass all my knowledge on to the next generation to make the Industry safer to work in and develop and improve the end product.

  213. LindaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:08 pm

I would like to get funding so I can start my own company, and stop chasing jobs I actually don’t want, just to pay the bills. I believe it’s a waste to work on someone else dream while you have your own. My next wish for 2014 would be for governments to stop ethnic profiling and work more towards Equality, Freedom & Justice for all mankind.

  214. HenryFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:09 pm

    Dear Santa
I am sitting here drinking a cup of tea,
2013 was really bad for me.
I packed my things and put them in a cart,
I moved to Leicester to begin a new start.
I’m filled with sugar and spice,
And always treat people very nice.
All i want for christmas is that special job for me,
So that i can begin my life with glee.

  216. Anne TanseyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:09 pm

I’d like to see a redistribution of wealth , world peace , aliens landing to sort things out and oh a job that pays a living wage would be the icing on my cake . I did just see a pig fly past my window !

  217. LillianFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:10 pm

I would like to see the trainings available to young people can be offered to the matured ones, too; why can’t I want to be a plumber at 40 after looking after my kids and now they are grown up? no apprenticeship is available to us even though we have more common sense and are much more willing to learn, we are only given what’s left if there’s any. I don’t want much, just equal opportunity. Totaljobs, please make my wish come true.

  218. Greg HigmanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:10 pm

I am very lucky. I’ve just got a new job. What I would like is a technical makeover (you know, a lap top, an i-pad to start with) and a personal makeover would freshen me up for my new start in January 2014. Can I be that lucky? or is that just greedy! Good luck everyone else and keep positive!

  220. Frank KerrFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:11 pm

I want a 2:1 pass and acceptance onto a post grad teaching course.

  221. natashaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:11 pm

This sounds like a fantastic opportunity this could open alot of doors for a individual like my self who cannot offord all the right tools needed to be a huge success as I am able. If I was choosen I would be so delighted to begin my own make up range but not any make up range a make up so unique which dont just help women look and feel great but also treats the skin. Some women suffer with really bad skin issues and for some, make up makes it worse I know because I am also one that has these problems. I wanted to be a mqkeup artists since day one but then also thought if there were a skin make up solution for women even men likw myself it could really change peoples life. I love when I do a makeover and customers are glowing with happiness I love making people feel good about then self its such a joy but I would absolutely love to make others who are deeply upset in the skin there in feel happier and confident in there own body buy actually solving the problem and at rhe same time look amazing. I truly believe in this and would love your help to make a difference in not just my life but a lot of women/mens life all over for 2014 thank you for hearing me out
    Natasha St Louis

I want 2014 to be the year I correct my younger selfs mistakes. I am enrolled into uni which can be a painstakingly risky option but I don’t have much else so why not? I’m not getting any younger!

  223. MaciejFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:11 pm

I want to have a best job, gain experience, meet new cool people and finally be proud of myself and path of my life.

  225. Theo GFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:12 pm

    Hi,

I would like to see myself in full time employment working with young people, As I enjoy teaching and mentoring young people. I really need to find full time employment as I am getting married in August and could really do with the additional finance in order to give my princess the wedding of her dreams. So I would really love to see myself in 2014 a married man, financially stable to look after my family!!!

    Theo

  226. Carol BradyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:12 pm

I would love to get back into work and regain some self confidence, as I am a older parent of a teenager and a single parent.
I have found it very difficult, so I have working voluntary
with my housing association, which is great but does not pay the bills.
It would be lovely to kiss the jobcentre goodbye and stand
    on my own two feet.

  227. Ben BestFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:12 pm

Twenty Fourteen is the year that I learn
to drive a truck, or maybe give someone a perm,
perhaps I’ll teach English or sell a new car,
or maybe someone will see me, playing my guitar.

I’ve spent a long time sorting my CV,
writing covering letters, and being distracted by TV.
I’ve looked on TotalJobs, and in the local Newspaper
but I’ve still had no luck in my job hunting caper.

    I’ve decided, I think, that it’s time to re-train,
To look for something different, start using my brain
So what I really want from twenty fourteen,
is a career not a job; I’m ready, I’m keen!

  228. AminaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:13 pm

2013 has been a very tough year for me. I would like a bright career with a stable job so that I can deliver my skills, experience and knowledge to show what I am capable of.
My moto in life is to help myself to help others. By seeing a simple smile on my family and friends gives me the joy and happiness.
I hope 2014 gives me this opportunity to fulfill my wish and succeed for a better future for myself and for the people who are around me.

  229. Saranpreet GrewalFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:13 pm

Well I’m due to have another baby girl in April 2014. So my special year would be for her and my other little girl to be happy and healthy. In order to do that and provide them with everything that I couldn’t have when I was younger is to get myself into a fantastic stable job and work my butt off to ensure that they will always be cared for.
Also would hopefully like to get a whole nights sleep at least once without my girls waking up so that I don’t look too rough in the morning but that’s sort of a miracle type of wish.
    Thank you xxx

i like to see the uk economic improve in 2014 so everyone can find work easily

  231. Benjamin HaighFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:14 pm

I would genuinely like to see greater prospects and the achievement of success by those labelled as long term unemployed.

The regulation of the recruitment sector, too many quick start recruitment companies, cashing in on the out of work, the desperate will apply to anything viable, even if it is a fake add, a scam, a zero hours commission only short term fix make a recruitment pyramid scheme starter rich.

The restructuring of the Welfare State. The word benefit is dated and its positive connotation is misleading to those who have never been at the grace of the State, assistance is a better word. Welfare should be based on dignity and not entitlement.

An end to the media stigmatization of the out of work. Those not earning are vulnerable, there is no other collective term that fits.

  232. Michael LynnFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:14 pm

In 2014 I’d like my wife to have bigger boobs.
My 2 year old son not to age a day.
My house to be decorated perfectly and porfessionally rather than my horrendous DIY glaring at us all.
My holidays to not be restricted to our hometown beach, for the day.
Oh and how could I forget, I want my hair to grow back, bald doesnt suit me.

  233. Jean LuminguFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:14 pm

People must become more motivate and career oriented and stop blame it on the system or limited themselves, we have all the tools necessary to find the right job for us (Internet, news papers, job site and many more).
Nothing is impossible in this world, have faith and work hard, doors are open to everyone.

  234. Samantha TetherFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:14 pm

I have never been employed and i’m 19 so I apply for anything I can. I always try to be enthusiastic in what I do but on job seekers it feels like I:
    Eat
    Sleep
    Apply
    Repeat
It seems I can not do much more than this in order to try to gain a job or even career.
But I still keep my hopes up and stay motivated.

  235. Connor AldousFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:15 pm

I want to develop superpowers! 😛
or a fair chance at getting a job. Either will do lol

  236. MelanieFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:15 pm

    I want world domination!

But seriously I would like to make a difference. Ideally I would like to put everything I learnt in my degree, my unique personality quarks, traits and skill set to good use to forge a career with a bright future and recognition.

And I would like world peace too 

  237. Paul FellowsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:15 pm

    2014 is coming soon
Cosmos hear and grant this boon.
A job within in my new career
Is all I ask, no greed, not here!
    Recruiters look beneath the page
See all the skills I’ve gained with age.
Don’t write me off give, me a chance.
I’m good to go, my skills enhanced.
A word to David in number 10,
I found I was quite angry when
You said I’m a shirker or a slob,
    I’m unemployed and I want a job!
Let the new year bring to all
That letter email or phone call,
That’ll banish all the pain and sorrow.
You’ve got a job you can start tomorrow!

  238. SukiFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:15 pm

I want to have a great new job, with great new people, to save enough money for a deposit on a flat, and the same for everybody else looking for a job out there. That’s right, jobs for all! I should be Priminister!

  239. SangeetaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:16 pm

A new job that inspires my passion for marketing again with a path to clearly progress…oh and a winning lottery ticket!

  240. JatinFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:16 pm

I would like to get a job offer which I can accept from my heart knowing that I will be able to give back something to my friends, family and society. I would like to hope that employers in 2014 start to understand that skills are not everything for a job. Mindset is even more important. A person that possesses all the skills but does not have a good mindset will not be as successful as one who lacks the skills for a job but has the best mindset!

  241. JFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:16 pm

Stuck in a glamourised admin job for so long and need to get a job that I enjoy and that pays well 🙂
My CV & I both need a super make over

    Thanks

I hit 50, so Life begins… I start my DBA and recruiters recognise that my best work lies ahead…

  243. RuthieFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:17 pm

In 2014 I hope to find purpose, fulfillment and real direction. Life is a book of chapters, and my next chapter is full of potential. Hope is not just a word it is a state of mind.

  244. john lynchFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:17 pm

I would like a job that pays a decent wage so i can take my three daughter’s away abroad on holiday,After bringing them up for sixteen year’s on my owen.

  245. DayoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:17 pm

Honestly, what I would like to see happen in 2014.
    – A job better than I’ve ever had before (currently unemployed)
    – More opportunities for people to better their families, lives, pockets
    – People living in harmony rather than this tension created by immigration issues currently.
    – Global peace.
    – England winning the World Cup.
    – Arsenal winning a cup (Premiership or Champions league preferably)
    – Wages to increase more than inflation.
    – A cure found to the present incurable ailments such as Cancer, AIDS.

    I can dream…;-)

  246. Chris PitchfordFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:18 pm

I just want to find a job so I can pay the bills and feed my children.

  247. arielle smith-lambFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:18 pm

I want to get a job, so that myself and my partner can have financial stability in life. So that my partner doesn’t have to pay all the bill

  248. AdamFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:18 pm

I would like to see employment rate and salaries high, interest rates and house prices low. And of course people happy. Nice dream isn’t it?!

  249. DavidFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:18 pm

I will celebrate being one year nearer to retirement leaving a space free for a young person to have work

If only the government could see the sense in this and reduce the retirement age, for a while at least, instead of pushing it up

  250. Alexandra TsiatsiouFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:19 pm

Just health and love. These are the powers that will help us keep chasing our dreams.

  251. Jason HubbardFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:19 pm

A job role in my chosen career path, which is stable and gives me the ability to support my family.I don’t mind having to relocate any where in the UK to get that job role. I’m also prepared to attend some additional training if that helps get the role I’m after.

  252. David RussellFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:19 pm

I’d like to see my career as a proof reader take off. If I had a pound for every spelling mistake in the ads I’ve seen during 2013, I would have over £78 by now.

It’s bad enough not getting feedback on an application, but considering they were recruiting for a “manafacturing engineer” it does grate a little.

Oh and world peace would be nice.

  253. Ian RFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:20 pm

That’s easy I want to be debt free. To do this all I need is a job that inspires me to do my best.

Because I believe if I do my best then my salary will be enough to finally clear all my debts.

  254. Callum OrzechowskiFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:20 pm

2014 well thats the name on the door we’re all going to walk through at midnight on new years eve. I guess that I wont be alone when breathing a big sigh of relief that i’m still fortunate enough to own my house and the children had as an enjoyable christmas as could be afforded.

So what’s 2014 got in store for me? I guess the key thing it holds will be opportunity, the new year looks really promising as we are starting to see some upturn in movement, in the IT jobs market. However there is one thing i’ll be doing differently in 2014, i’ll be approaching the employer directly! After spending a year applying for in excess of 100 positions a week through recruiters and agency’s it became clear that i was doing something wrong.

Now to be fair, i’ve got a pretty unique set of skills and experience, but time after time i was getting put on the too difficult to handle path because i didn’t neatly fit into the job specification or i was over qualified. I recently tested the theory and approached the UK head of HR for a Global IT Business, using the wonder of Linkedin anything is possible and within hours a returned email and i was being asked what i wanted to join the business and strangely being complement on my skill set and experience, i’d long since forgotten that i once used to be a valued and experienced member of the team!

So in 2014 I’m off to make my own opportunities and 2013 thanks i’ve learned some lessons that will stay with me forever but lets not do this too often…

  255. AndreaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:20 pm

Id like a part time administration job, to be able to show off my skills and feel some sort of worth again. The money from a job would enable me to marry my fiance and to complete our family. The make over would improve my confidence and make me feel good, which is what i need at the moment, as everything has gone against us recently…. in a nut shell it would be ‘A PERFECT CHRISTMAS WISH COME TRUE’….

  256. Mira GyulevaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:20 pm

I would like 2014 to bring health to me and the ones I love.I also want a successful new career in Fashion PR in London.
    Merry Xmas!

  257. Marks NcubeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:21 pm

My 2014 new year’s resolution is to make no more resolutions. Only getting a new job will be a resolution not broken. This is because most people set unreasonable and unrealistic goals for themselves. My 2014 resolution, however, is guaranteed to one thing only getting a job that will make me and my family happy. The undeniable key to success, is to not set yourself up for failure.

  258. Ed MossFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:21 pm

I would like to meet an honest and professional recruitment consultant with a client that is not “leading”, CAN reveal the salary, CAN reveal the name of the client and who doesn’t reply with a computerised rejection letter at 3am on a Sunday morning two hours after you apply for the job – the job being with their anonymous leading client who despite having a multi-billion turnover doesn’t know what salary they are offering! – professional recruitment consultant who obtains an interview for you based on the fact that your CV, which they have actually manually read, matches the job description of “my client”.

  259. MilkoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:21 pm

Having been unemployed since moving to the UK in July to support my wife’s career, I would like to see 2014 bring in some great new prospects and the ideal position for me to also plant my roots in the UK and begin a fruitful career!

  260. Silvana MansillaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:21 pm

I want to find my RIGHT job and i think Totaljobs.com is the best way to do it, and now is Not only giving me the perfect webside to my everyday jobseeker also the chance of winning
over £3,500 worth of job-related prizes to step forward professionally and I would very much appreciate if i can get this massive boost just in time for 2014.

  261. Richard BlairFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:22 pm

Perhaps it didn’t work out for me this year, but I believe in myself and my abilities. Redundancy is just a social stigma,it’s not the end of the world. Positive thinking will keep me going, and I won’t give in until I’ve recovered my way in life. The secret is to keep engaging with people of all walks of life, sometimes a kick up the backside is what spurs you on to greater things.

  262. colin mccabeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:22 pm

i WOULD LIKE A JOB TO LAST ME TILL THE END OF MY CAREER,THEY WILL RECEIVE MY KNOWLEDGE DEDICATION EXPERIENCE AND LOYALTY

  263. Carlos LopesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:22 pm

    My wishes for 2014:
EU – stop with the austerity and get some jobs going on! Production beats damage control anytime.
World Cup – please be civilized, Brazil. This should be a great party and a way to improve the country. The chance is just there for you to take it.
Hunger – heard something about a billion dollar investment for a huge shopping center going on in China. Don’t we have better causes to drop the funds (hint: title).
Family – things are not great in my home country (Portugal). 2014 can’t be worse than this one financially and I really wish it doesn’t.
Me – I would like to get a job, actually. London, help me out!

  264. Mariachiara MagriFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:23 pm

    A Great 2014 for me?
Well, I think first of all, I would like to grow my hair , and I’m not able to withstand more than a month that I run to the hairdresser to cut them again ! Make them grow , and have a flowing mane would be wonderful. Now I also want to lose those extra pounds 2-3 , although not threaten my self-esteem , it would always be a way to increase my love life , which in 2013 was bad .I would also like to this in 2014 a new government for Italy , a serious government , which uplifts the fate of my country. I want a future here in England I wish I could express my creativity in a big agency communication; work until late at night , and taken in the morning , on projects engaging and stimulating. I would like to learn new things, beautiful and interesting things , I wish I had the time to start doing gym .I would like a summer with the sun and a Christmas with snow . oh and of course I would like to win the contest and the ipad.I also wish that every day was a good day , and every night was a good night ,I wish the guy I love would leave his wife and chose me! I wish my mother would stop with the poker and began to knit with And I wish that my sweet little nieces would stop to ask for gifts absurd. But despite this , I’m sure that 2014 will bring me more good things, and opportunities to live, with a smile, or a tear , it is important.
I wish you a merry christmas

    2013 took away my job
It wasn’t a very good year
All I want is to earn a few bob
And that will make me cheer!

  266. Steve RabbichFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:23 pm

Its Really Simple.I would like to be able to put all the knowledge and skills I have gained over the years to good use and if I get the opportunity to pass some of that on to people who want to learn then even better.

  267. Anthony WilliamsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:24 pm

2014 has to be the year where career dreams come alive. I don’t want to watch from the sidelines, but be an active part of the growing innovation in the media industry. More focus would be on how to effectively use the media to enhance economic growth in less developed nations through the promotion of cultural-tourism.

  268. Mark KennedyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:24 pm

I’d love a job with accompany who, could except me for who I am, tinnitus or no tinnitus. It’s a struggle finding a job due to my earring issues as companies believe I’ve nothing to over. Due to my disability, i’d love to know how I could over come this issue as it not only stressful but also demoralising having work all my life. So all I wont for Christmas is an opportunity to look to a brighter future.

  269. MichaelFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:25 pm

part from winning the lottery and England winning the World Cup in Brazil, all I want to see in 2014 is my career taking shape.

I have a relevant degree that is backed up with relevant work experience for what I want to pursue. I have applied to many job applications and have had a hand full of interviews. Maybe I am not confident enough, maybe I lack experience or maybe I am just unlucky, I really don’t know. But I am determined and all I want just like many other job hunters is to be given that golden opportunity. Let me show you what I can do!

  270. Tim BeesleyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:25 pm

Since 2009 I’ve had my dad in a care home – almost deaf, blind and with dementia. He died in 2012. My mum has had heart and lung problems. My partner found she has the BRACC2 cancer gene and has had operations as a result, that went wrong! I finally got my 98 yr old grandmother in a home after a month in hospital with various illnesses in October. She died in December. Now have to sort out her estate! For 2014? Some peace and freedom from other’s illness and time for myself and what I need! I feel selfish saying that, but itis exhausting looking after others.

  271. Will HopsonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:25 pm

I would like a job that I can work hard, and develop myself and the role. I want to be able to afford to get married to my beautiful fiance. I would like to make Christmas 2014 to be the best Christmas ever for my 8 year old step son. I am a keen boxer and love what the Olympics has done for the sport, so I would love put something, back into the sport, there are some very good up and coming young prospects in my town, and I would love to have fund some of their training as the area is quite poor. Thanks

After a year of personal grief and loss, being let down by so many recruitment agencies and the jcp, I have decided to make a life for myself in the north of Sweden. I wish to work as an IT engineer, my career choice of a lifetime, and would like to find a nice company to work for until I retire or who are willing to take me on to help me get settled over there. I also wish that recruitment agencies/HR personal would stop looking at age/time of unemployment and help push us for roles that we CAN do, not that they THINK we can do.

  275. Luis CamposFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:26 pm

Basically finding a job which would help me develop my skills as am electrician because I have searched everywhere and there is nowhere and no way how to get help if you are older than 25 it gets much harder to find a company that will help you or fund or even help you in getting your qualification so that would be lovely to actually start the year in a high getting a job doing what I like And wen getting paid for it and obviously developing my skills

  276. Samuel WattsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:26 pm

Being a young person brings a lot of problems with employment. Employers prefer someone with experience and this along with some other personal issues has made 2013 a hard year for me. I believe that being young puts a person at a massive disadvantage when it comes to being employed. I hope to gain employment next year to give me my desired job within the financial sector. The opportunities this competition offers would benefit me massively. Especially the Career coaching day with Aimee Bateman and the CV makeover. I also hope that more funding and specialists are put into schemes for young people to get employed and gain experience.
Thanks very much to total jobs for giving people opportunities for employment.
I wish a good 2014 for myself and everyone,
    Regards Samuel Watts

  277. Kenny JonesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:27 pm

What do I want for 2014?

A job I can finally call my own, after going in and out of college getting different qualifications in IT and related studies I’m hoping I can finally have a job to stand on equal ground with my peers and to prove anyone wrong while I’m at it.
I don’t get much a chance if ever to prove myself and I’ve been more than eager to do so, just never given the shot I need.

  278. LindseyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:27 pm

I would just like to have a job so that I have money to help give my daughter a better life and take her on holidays (even mini breaks over the weekend or visiting family.

  279. BartekFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:27 pm

    Find god long term employment.

  280. Hannah RidleyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:28 pm

The world is a sadder place with the loss of Nelson Mandela,he was a man that knew how to give people a chance, promoted acceptance of others and showed us how to forgive. This year I lost my Grandma another beautiful person, I lost my unborn child and my job. I hope that in 2014 someone will give me a chance and offer me a job, not be prejudiced by my youth, or the fact I was pregnant at a young age, somone who will forgive my silly mistakes, accept me as I am and allow me the opportunity to work for them so I can grow, mature, build future and if Grandma is looking down on me, make her proud!

  281. Glen ArnoldFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:28 pm

what I would like to happen in the new year is to have a better chance of being able to find work and hopefully get a career and move forward and progress in life gaining experience and new skills along the way I’ve been out of work for two years since I lost my job as a painter and decorator I apply everyday to about 20 or more jobs a day and barely get about 3 employers get back to me to let me know whether I have the chance to have an interview or turn me down.

I would like to see that everybody has a equal opportunity to be able to find work and for companies to reply back to messages left even if it is a rejection. because there’s nothing worse than applying for a job and hoping to get it and then not even get the decency to message us back to tell us that we haven’t got the job.

it would be perfect if the government could put more funding into helping people to find work, apprenticeships or even help other to get into training to help them find their career path for future opportunities instead of wasting it on useless projects that end up blowing up in their faces and making people lose their job instead of gaining

    • kellyFriday, 20 Dec, 2013 at 3:15 pm

I would like 2014 to be my new year. I’ve been to hell and back with employment and not getting paid. I would love a new carer and a new job even part time so i can start fresh and let my life begin once more

  282. julie pilkingtonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:28 pm

I would like 2014 to be a year of opportunity and firsts. My daughter is off to university and will be having so many first experiences and challenges. I am looking for that special job that allows me the opportunity to showcase my talents and invests in my future.

All I want is a wickidest Job ever! Nah, Joking! The BEST Job ever working in a Office making psychological HDR Timelapse videos! But here is the thing…I made that Job up. Does such a Job exist? If so, cool and bring it on because you already have someone like me waiting to be hired. Actually hired for the first time in my life.

Does wudu(purification) and then start making dua(prayer)……ameeeen

Haha I attempted posting this comment like a million times and finally it’s posted. Alhamdulilah!

i would like 2014 to be better than 2013 i ran my own bar in rhyl for 6 months it did not work out it nearly cost me my marriage i was working 104 hours a week i had more arguments in 6 months than i ever did in 37 years of marriage i would like to get a new job and start my life all over again as i do not like being out of work

  289. Eric SutherlandFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:31 pm

I’d like to see politicians of all flavours stop blaming each other and start to talk the country up instead of down. I’d like to see support for the entrepreneurs and wealth makers that create the jobs we are all looking for. I’d like to see so many jobs available that recruiters have to start treating candidates with respect and take as much time and care to respond to an application as a candidate puts in to write the application – or at least actually read it all and offer some real feedback. 🙂

  290. HayleyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:31 pm

I would like to make 2014 a good year for myself any son.
Things have been tough and I need to improve our lives.
Winning would give me a confidence boost and help me on my way to finding a worth while job to support us both and make us happy

  291. SandraFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:31 pm

    I want a job that’s great
A job that I dont hate
That feels me up with glee
And suits me to a tee
That pays more than the going rate
But doesn’t make me stay back late
    That challenges my brain
    Without me going insane!

Well in 2014 I’m getting married , we’ve just moved home after my partners mum passed away,
To be honest it’s brought us closer together but we just struggle with compassion.
A want to be realised of my achievements in life as a hairdresser and care assistant and struggle with both.
    What can I do?
I need help in life with being noticed of my abilities in caring and styling 🙁

Well what can I say 2013 has been a rocky year for me.
As I not long lost my job of 5years,over a silly mis understanding. I have activily been seeking work, but haven’t had any luck, though through it all still all smiles and a positive attiude hoping things will be better next year! All I could say I really want next year is a chance to progress, gain, develop and strive to be a better person and find the job my dreams are made of!!

  296. chelsey woodFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:32 pm

I would love to see more help for young peple (18-24) with families getting into work as there isnt any help out there for those, like me that are desparate to provide for their family. On a brighter note, boris falling in the thames and dragging cameron in would be funny 🙂

  297. TamarinFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:33 pm

I would love to be blessed with a job, Not just any job (even though I’m pretty open minded) but something in which I actually use my qualifications, in which I can develop my career and move forward in life, learning constantly.

  298. SILVANAFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:33 pm

  300. Kirsten VollmersFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:34 pm

I don’t really know anybody who doesn’t deserve a bit more happiness for the next year so best of luck to everyone! It would be amazing to see more job opportunities for those of us who are honest, hard-working and just looking to make life better for those we love. I appreciate having a job but it would be wonderful to have a job that appreciated me back. It would be wonderful to be a bit happier in 2014!

  301. Louise LarcombeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:34 pm

2 months ago I was made redundant from the job I thought I would retire from. In 2014, at 30 years old, I will have the tough and bewildering task of finding another great job. I think I need professional help!

  302. Luke BollandFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:34 pm

What I would to see happen in 2014 is the discovery of a renewable energy that can sustain mans need to put planes in the air, cars on the road and heat in our homes pollution free. Which is made entirely from every day items bought at the supermarket.
Also I’m the one that makes the discovery which gets me a Nobel prize, drinks are on me!

  303. BrianFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:34 pm

It’s a big year…One son gets married, the other finishes University and enters a buoyant job market for his first job. I continue contracting and win some great short contracts, or secure a stellar opportunity for a new longer-term career. My football team wins the Premier League again after a 53 year gap. England do well in the Football World Cup and inspire the nation. The economic recovery gathers pace and touches all walks of UK life to give everyone a boost in their own way. My wife doesn’t buy another dog, so that we stick with owning just the one…and the vet bills calm down. And I don’t get any more Toblerones on Fathers Day.

  304. Cris MorgadoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:35 pm

In 2014 I would like to see start-up use the power of social media and tech in order to eradicate: wars and famine.

  305. Suraj KampliFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:35 pm

  307. MohamedFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:35 pm

Let’s hope the best in 2014….!! Better placement..! Better life style.!!!In 2014 I would like a positive outlook on life, something to get up in the morning for. Seems like at the minute it is just drag myself out of bed, work, sleep, repeat. I would also like people to be a bit nicer to each other and respect that everyone has an ambition to be happy

  308. DaniFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:36 pm

All I want to do is better myself so I can provide such a great future for my three children and myself. I haven’t been able to afford to pay for a course myself due to the cost of living, everyone always tells me I’m a bright person but I have never believed in myself. Now that my confidence has grown I want the best in lif, confidence is roaring, people say I have a professional approach, I want to use it all to it’s full potential and get out there and show people what I can do 🙂

  309. Mark webbFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:36 pm

hi all, what i would want for the year (2014) is well my mum just had a weight loss operation so i would want her to reach her goal weight and finally be able to run around and be able to play with her two grand kids plus my sister just got enaged to her bf so i would want her to be happy and get married also i would want my granny to be be cured of cancer as she is in her third lot of cancer and finally i would want to get a job as i love to work and need and want a job because i have been on the benefits system for almost 4 years and i know from personal experience that when u are on the system for as long as i have been on it can really damge your self confidence and get you really depressed and lastly i really want or countries in the uk to finally give everyone the chance at getting a job so no one can feel the way i have felt for the past 3 years.

  310. Tony HolmesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:36 pm

I am a fully qualified chef with 2nd regional prize award for the midlands 1992. I left the career due to having a young family. I have gained considerable experience in many lines of work since. My children are grown up now and I would love to get back into the career that I have a flair and passion for but I think employers consider that because I haven’t been working in a kitchen for a while that my skills may be dated and I would burn the soup. I turn 50 years of age next year, I don’t want to be recycling fridges or picking and packing although it seems we have to be grateful to have ‘any’ employment right now. Next year if I don’t find an employer that recognises me as the great chef that I am then I will utilise my skills with my own business.

  311. sana aliFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:37 pm

    A lot of fellows nowadays have a B.A., M.D., or Ph.D. Unfortunately, they don’t have a J.O.B.
However I’m lucky that this does not apply to me…
    I do not want a J.O.B.
    2014 will bring a C.A.R.E.E.R. instead…..
So it’s looking all rosy ahead!!!
Oh and an iPad Air or an Acer Laptop I would not dread!!!! 🙂

  313. Cris MorgadoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:37 pm

  318. Isaac ElesiaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:39 pm

Being an oldman of 58, i am feeling as if the job market is no place for oldman. I have attended many unsuccessul job interviews and have volunteered and work for nothing for nearly one year without securing any job.My computer is gone for good and the local library only allow half an hour to use their computer. My confidence is at rock bottom, and it seems to me the God has turn his back on me. Thanks to totaljobs advice, i feel that 2014 will be a better year for me.

  319. Danny OKeeffeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:39 pm

I want to find the job that offers me the next step in my career, I don’t just want the 9-5, I want something to make my career thrive!

In 2014, I would like the simple things in life to blossom…

    A Family, to be started
    A Career, to be enjoyed
A feeling of fulfillment from the above, to drive my commitment to them all!

  320. Shaniqua BFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:39 pm

  324. OpeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:40 pm

2014 would be a better year than 2013 with a ‘can do’ attitude. It begins from within, changing our minds, surrounding ourselves with inspiring people and images in order to be a success. Knowing and believing we can get the job we want with hard work and perseverance. Never giving up or becoming complacent but delivering our best, 100% in everything..

  325. stephen foaleFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:41 pm

    I want the world!

I want rid of the government!

I want the world to be a happy place!

    I want no war!

I want people to see the truth!

    but…

    I want never gets!!!

  326. Hollie - Apprentice (Business and Administration Level 2)Friday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:41 pm

I always strive to give my all, I am currently on an apprenticeship in an office environment. However, I fear that I will not be given my full-time paid wage when my course ends May 2014. I am entering this competition as I hope I can find something with some stability.

I enjoy what I am doing, and hope in the New Year that isn’t taken from under my feet.

However, I count myself lucky this year to have the most amazing boyfriend, his little boy and a roof over our heads.

  327. KayleighFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:42 pm

I would like a decent paying job so I can save up for a house with my boyfriend which we will turn into our home and start our family together.

  329. Ms PowellFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Personally for 2014 I would like to be in a job that firstly gives me joy and fulfillment and secondly financial security. I have always worked in jobs that involve helping others and I have recently attempted to set up my own business in order to help people.

For 2014 I would like to see improvements in our society as a whole. Less crime and more love, kindness and compassion.

As a child I always asked questions like “Why are we here?” and I believe my purpose is in life is to make a difference in this world.

  330. brendan quinnFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:42 pm

To wake up on new years day to news that the worlds governments wised up, banks realise its not actually their money and they have things called customers who pay their wages. Companies who have stockpiled loads of cash release it, start investing in people and begin to invest in development and expansion. The Press realise that talking about doom and gloom makes everyone feel negative. New Year New Vision, Let everyone wake up in the morning with a smile on their face.

McGregors theory X and theory Y is an interpretation of how our work days go by

As I know that every ever have been more or less challenging year for me through out lots of challenges I have more or less succeeded on in .
As I believe life = problem problem = solution solution = success success = achievement so more or less every year have been somehow a achievement year for be weather it’s on my desired field or on undesired field so I hope this year to be a most challenging year to me but I will be very pleased if all the challenges will be on the field of my interest which will surly help me to achieve something on my career and which help to enhance my knowledge and ability for next problem, which will lead to make me more able to get the job of my desire one day .
Looking forward to it in the coming year 2014.

I am hoping and Praying that I can fined a Job early in 2014 so that I can reunite my family that I left in the Philippines and bring them to a colder climate in the UK. The earlier the better because my son(16) has never seen snow!

The year 2014 will be extra great if I succeed in transforming the ‘easy to learn’ BRIDGE lessons I wrote into a website and/or an app, so that bridge – one of the best mind sport games – becomes more accessible to everyone. Sporting in great, adding a mind sport to your activities is better!

Since I already have a degree in Bsc Computing, what seems the most difficult is proving I have the competencies to become a Business-project Analyst when a quarter of my degree actually focussed on Business Studies at management-analysis depth.

For 2014 I would value support seeking to gain internships, more work experience and paid employment… at present even a 1st class honours seems to go unnoticed under a see of 100+ applicants applying for the same jobs and assumptions that I only code, design websites and utilise databases (not my strengths, yet I have received 15+ calls all telling them I am business studies oriented not a computer coder).

I have been in education for 13 years and I know I have made a difference in the lives of the students I have taught over the years, but I know I could do more if I were out of the classroom. I want to make a difference the helps our society grow and give our children a future of possibilities.

  338. Emma BarrettFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:45 pm

I would to get job within administration, gain more experience to enhance my C.V. Whilst doing this, I would like to AAT distance learning course, progressively learning more skills, and move from general administration to more financial. I cant see me being able to achieve more than this in 2014 but if possible, I would to like continue through the AAT levels and become a fully qualified accountant and find a career more suited to my skills and personality. Once this is achieved I can start paying back to all those have helped me get this far.

  339. Antony Del SetteFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:45 pm

2014 is a year that will determine what kind of man I can become. It is a year that will bring me a new home, a new career and most importantly a new member of my family. The future is very exciting in the Del Sette household. Goodbye to the days of adolescent weekends and lazy weekdays. 2014 is a year for me to become someone I have never been before. Somebody for a child to grow up and aspire to be. To be able to be a man that my child would be proud of. That is my only wish.

Having been a jack of all things within an office I would like to find out where my talents really lay. Perhaps have some retraining, find a new path ! I really could do with some professional help to direct my efficiency.

I would love to see a change in the workplace around the world. I wish for everyone to have a competive, fair and rewarding position within their skillsets. A position where they will be treated with respect, be given a fair salary and provided with the opportunity for growth. In return I would like to see employees who will be respectful of their peers and supervisors. Employees who will behave maturelly and offer employers a competent, driven, proactive and respectful employee/ candidate.
The perfect job or the perfect employee requires team work from both party.

  342. Valerio P.Friday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:46 pm

This year I move to London, so it was really exciting! Why not make it even better?

  343. George IsiborFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:46 pm

Firstly, 2013 has not been so great for me but it has only made me stronger and resilient, I worked in the service industry for 4years after many disappointments, I made a transition in July 2013 into the IT industry but it has been really hard to get a contract/job because am a newly qualified IT professional and most company need experienced people. This has affected me so bad because I need to support my young family. I am married, have daughter but unemployed and have lost my place as the bread winner of my beloved family. So life for me at the moment is very hard but I will never give up I am still fighting to sharpen my skills, chase knowledge and finish the year very strong. Come 2014, I want more IT company to invest into apprenticeship scheme, and also give room for young talent. I quote sometimes it is not ‘how far but rather it is how well’. The trials, lows and down I have been through since 2013 has taught me a great lesson in life so I am preparing for 2014 and for those people out there going through the same tragedy and pains as me, I have a message for you. Hold on to your goals and stay true to it never give up because 2014 is your year of accomplishments. Just decide: Commit: Succeed, remember ‘No Guts No Glory’. Have a great holiday, merry Xmas to everyone and to total jobs for the support and encouragement through out this year and I hope you all bought your turkey yet 🙂 Thanks. George

On a social note, world peace and more tolerance for our fellow man. A global upturn in GDP to eliminate deficits worldwide.

Workwise, a Training Contract or alternatively a well paid enjoyable job close to home.

At home, a new conservatory to stop the house from being so cold in the winter and reduce my ever increasing utility bills

  347. Mark WebbFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:47 pm

what i would want for 2014, well firstly i would want my mum who just had a weight loss operation to finally reach her goal weight and be able to run around and play with her two grand kids, my granmother has just entered into her third lot of cancer so i would love for here to be cured of it, my sister has just got engaged to her bf and i would want her to be happy entirely and lastly what i would want, all i want is to get a job as i have been unemployed for the past 4 years and i have been on the benefits system which i dont like now yes it has kept me alive but if anyone who has been on it knows that it can seriously damage your self confidence to apply for work when they ask for sooo much for the requirements plus it can really make u depressed and finally i would want everyone to have the opportunity to get a job and be happy with it

  348. K.GOLDERFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:48 pm

Dear 2013, the struggle’s been REAL! So 2014, could you please be a little more gentle in your dealings with me. Especially in regards to my not having to worry about whether I’m going to have food on my table the next day, or a roof on my head in a couple of months. A decent job in a respectable company, coupled with loads of fun and humour, and some good ol’ general elections results, as well as some real social progress in this country would do all of us a lot of good too don’t ya think? So I’ma raise my glass to a year filled with less drama, and more peace, love, joy, STRENGTH and hope. Again the struggle’s been real…and I think now’s the time I got me some blessings. “Can I get an Amen?”. And the crowd gleefully shouted AMEN!

  361. SABA ALIFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:51 pm

i would like to see employers give people without ‘experience’ a chance. Every job i look at nowadays states experience required but if we dont get given a chance to be employed without experience, how are we supposed to gain it??? And no, not everyone is ‘rich’ enough to work voluntary so they can gain experience!

In 2014 it will be good if employers stop using the economic crisis to lower their salaries, cut on staff and squeeze their employees. This will stop people taking time off because of stress.
I would like to see in 2014 real Equal Opportunities regardless of length of unemployment, disabilities, or age. As we are suppose to work until later years in our life, it is time that this new reality starts to show, right now it is only tactical decisions.
All the above will allow us to be part of the “real world” and contribute to the growth of the country. Getting a correct salary will allow us to spend not only for our own satisfaction but also for the growth of the whole country and economy.

  372. Seo Y YangFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:56 pm

I was born in Seoul, South Korea – one of the most competitive cities in the world. My parents were strict and so was I to myself to keep my performance at school. When I was 15, I left Korea and have lived and studied in the US, Austria, Germany and the UK and the competition never stopped. As a result of sleepless nights, I speak three languages fluently, have a master’s degree from LSE (graduated from 2012) and completed an internship at Deutsche Bank. But I am still unemployed.
In 2014, I am turning 30 in the Korean age – Koreans calculate the age differently (In fact, I am 28 in the ‘Western’ age). From a very early age, I was always competing. I used to say that I had such a happy childhood but I am even questioning it. I also often ask myself, what I could do differently – maybe I should not have changed university in 2008; maybe I should have gone to Germany a bit earlier. Maybe I should have listened to my heart rather than trying to make my parents happy by listening to them all the time. What if, what if, what if…
But believe me. I am not staying at home crying, recalling the past and thinking what I could have done differently. I get up early, try to stay in shape (mentally and physically), contact recruit agencies and keep myself updated in my area. I always do my best and I can say that I really have done all I could in 2013, although it was not successful.
I will keep doing my best in 2014 until I feel that there was nothing else I could do more. But I really want to find a position in 2014, where I will be challenged and supported to grow further; where I can utilize my knowledge and experience at workplace; where I can call a day with a feeling that I have learned something that day. There are a couple of things which are waiting until I find a job and I wish they would happen in 2014. I am currently not in such a good relationship with my parents because they don’t understand what I am doing – I want to be the good child again by showing that I can do it. And I will get married – I did not want the marriage to be an escape from my situation and my partner and I have been waiting for me to have my career started. My partner has been very supportive in this stressful time and now I want to show him that his effort has not been worthless.
I would really appreciate some professional and detailed support in my job search. I would really appreciate that.

  373. SandraFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:56 pm

    In 2014 I would love:-
    . cures for terminal illnesses
. people having more time for one another again and community spirits returning
. greed that causes wars to stop so we can have world peace
. people seeking work (including me) to find a job to enable them to return to “live, love and laughter”
. natural disasters such as droughts, forest fires and Tsunami’s to end
. starvation and homelessness sorted worldwide

For me to win this competition would mean one less thing from the above for me to hope for and realistically in the sad situation that we are accustomed to live in is statistically probably more likely!!!

  374. Stephen BeswickFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:56 pm

For once I’d like a permenent job with good hours.

  375. lisa baileyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:57 pm

Id love to get a job that has half decent hours, i love my job in the care industry making people smile, helping them and seeing the smile on there face makes me know in doing my job so well, but the hours are so long upto 12 hour shifts 4-5 times a week. Its so hard.. What would make my year is to get a job that pays slightly more in which i can improve my skills & knowledge. And so that i don’t have to do such long hours just to earn money to help me to pay my bills! And so i can occasionally treat myself and get my hair done and feel nice and human again! 🙂

  376. Will RaynerFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:57 pm

I would like to begin a career in the field I like, move into my own flat, remove the “long distance” part from my long distance relationship and, most importantly, make her very happy!

(I would also quite like to win one of the prizes)

  377. Christopher HughesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:57 pm

Firstly what a great idea for a competition and some amazing prizes!

As for seeing change in 2014 I really want to see a much friendlier and welcoming world when it comes for looking and applying for a job. It shouldn’t be a daunting process or something we feel nervous about. A job should be the place which completely turns around and eradicates this belief I see most people carry around which boils down to “I’m not good enough”. I want to see people not afraid to enjoy their jobs, I want to see positive work environments where the company is basically like a family where people work together, get ‘in the zone’ and really offer value to not only the company but themselves and the people around them.

I want to see employees (and employers)recognised for the value they have and offer and where we all well and truly work together, have understanding, connection and fun. Passion is what I want to see from everyone, no longer do we need to walk in to work with our heads down or worrying about our “superiors”.

I lost my job at the favourite place I worked, it was a call centre basically a Claims Management Company but it was at its high point a fun environment where we worked hard but had a laugh, if anyone’s seen the show The Call Centre you’ll know what I mean. The best times were when the manager and I were on an equal level, respected each others role and position and could at the same time talk to about our interests.

I had been late over the course of two years a number of times and this is why ultimately I was dismissed, I still think they made a bad decision as I really was on their side so to speak. Its a shame that one department can rule over who should stay or go. Despite being willing to do overtime, an extra hour every day for a week to make up for any past lateness which would make me have worked way over the normal times.

There is a dark side which isn’t noticed where people are discriminated against and judged and I honestly think if it was down to a vote of whether I should have stayed or gone that 99% of that company or team would have kept me.

If I didn’t value something worthwhile I normally wouldn’t care but when you lose something good it does hit and hurt you especially if you know a company is making a harsh decision. I lost a good job and they lost a great employee.

I want to see less patronisation and intimidation from employers, more easy goingness yet still have those steel boundaries there which are set out and demonstrated from the get go.

Overall the employer and employee should be in a win win mindset and in fact the employers should be treated like human beings not a dogs body that can easily be replaced. Nothing beats an environment where everyone is like friends and family, might seem unrealistic but I have seen some of the best managers dismissed or leave and it is sad when things change.

Some of these policies in companies are ridiculous and there are departments which don’t always need to exist.

Thanks for taking the time to read such a lengthy rant, something I have wanted to get off my chest for a long time. @ChrisHughesy

I am looking forward to year 2014 optimistically in the belief that it will bring ‘good tidings’and success in securing desired employment.
After years of accepting ‘unwanted’ employments just for the reasons of making ends meet, I would like to see myself in a happy, fulfilling and rewarding job in 2014.

  382. Andy ClarkeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:59 pm

I would like to see the recruitment market regulated. A contract signed by a Director of the hiring company and recruiter/agency, robust JDs with salary ext details, no ads with no live jobs, a time scale, interview expenses – all to focus the hiring companies and recruited – and to prevent CV ‘fishing’. Oh, and ageism, sexism and racism removed completely so that we move to true meritocracy to win the global race. This will rid the system of friction (inefficiency based on rogue and incompetent processes at the candidates cost).

  383. LUEREX GONSALVESFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 1:59 pm

World peace, oh yeh, and a dream start to my career

  391. AntonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:01 pm

I don’t expect to be wealthier, or healthier, or more fulfilled in 2014; what I do expect is that I shall be more grateful for what I’ve got and more dedicated to becoming a better person and a more effective manager. There are some things which I think would make 2014 a good year for job hunters, including:-

a)HR departments are obliged to respond to ALL job applicants and all unsuccessful interviewees given feedback from prospective employers.

b)It becomes compulsory for companies not only to offer apprenticeships but to offer a guaranteed contract of employment upon their successful completion.

c)Everyone over 50 is given a guaranteed interview for any job they apply for.

d)October 3rd becomes a public holiday. It’s my birthday, and everyone is authorised to party on!

    e)Champagne becomes available on prescription.

  392. Jenny ReidFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:02 pm

That an employer will give me the ability to be able to have the courage to be committed to co-operate with consciousness. To work fairly and honourably and to respect people.

2014 has to be a better year.
My last exciting project finished in June and I spent the next few weeks searching but also coping with loosing both my father and uncle. The last month has been sorting my fathers affairs and now I intend to start 2014 with positive thoughts and a position that will give job satisfaction together with making a mark in which ever business who wants me!!

2013 has been an up and down year for me, My Mum passed away suddenly in April which brought great sadness to my family but in September I gave birth to my second daughter bring great joy to us all.
I am due to be made redundant in March 2014 and really want to find a career that will fulfil my potential, challenge me and make my time away from my two daughters worthwhile.

I believe that tomorrow is always better as I can do tomorrow what I failed in yesterday! In 2014, I’d like to see change in a way of recruiting employees. I want to see recruiter setting interviews everywhere. For example, I’m from Egypt, currently live in Oman, so no one is able to come and interviewing me. I have to apply for visa and travel and pay lots of money, and then get rejected! So I would be a great idea that recruiters who can arrange interview in our places, so people will get know more about them and to broaden the way of employing.

I want to work for a company that inspires me, that has a culture that nurtures talent and appreciates hard work and commitment ! I would like to professionally grow within an organisation that is not afraid of change and innovation and who is willing to collaborate and listen to ideas that it’s employees generate. If this doesn’t happen then I will of course win the lottery and set up an animal rescue centre, the end !

What i would like in 2014. I would love for someone to take a chance on me .
I’m hard working trustworthy and reliable. I served in the royal armoured corps/ kings royal hussars for 6 years and i got a glowing report from them. You think this would help me get a job but it doesn’t I’ve lost track of how many cv’s i’ve sent or business’s ive called into. It makes me wonder if I made the right decision joining the army or should I of just gone to college as I could have a trade behind me now. I know times are hard at the moment and I should count my blessings that we all have are health but my health does not pay the bills and we are struggling to pay the bills, which is causing tension between me and my partner and which is upsetting my little girl as she picks up on it. Even though we try to be positive and stay strong it’s hard. I’m a proud man and don’t want to sign on but i feel like I’m being pushed into it . I like working hard for my money and not scrounging of others. Maybe I’m doing something wrong or im going about it the wrong way . I would love nothing more than to be able to give my partner the great news that I’m in full time contracted work and she no longer needs to worry. There would be less stress at home and we could enjoy being a family and not have to worry. I’d also love to be able to treat my 2 year old daughter like a princess every now and again( but only if she is good lol ). Anyway I don’t care what job I do either as I’m not picky. From workin in drainage covered in allsorts to working in an office. A jobs a job at the end of the day aslong as it’s fulltime and is contracted thats all that matters. Sorry if I’ve gone on a little I’m just really frustrated and upset as I’m trying my hardest to do everything right honestly but nothing works. Anyway who ever took the time to read this merry Christmas and have a happy new year . I hope 2014 brings you lots of luck and happiness…. All the best

What I would like to happen in 2014, is for money and success to become abundant in my life and that all my dreams as ambitious as they may be can come in to reality. I also know that it is not impossible for those things to happen it’s simply a matter of dedication and wanting it bad enough with those two qualities pushing you, you could surely complete any task at hand, I know that I will. In 2014 I will become the man I’ve always dreamed of being In every aspect, that is what I know will happen, what I would like to happen is for me to win this competition so it can push me closer to realising my dreams.

  401. John JFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:04 pm

My life’s been a roller coaster of highs and lows, like everyone else i guess. I have a very specialist unconventional skill and work has dive bombed since the recession kicked in. No amount of job sites, employment agencies or online searching can help me. I feel isolated from the rest of the working population and population in general and yet i feel and know i have so much to offer.
It’s easy when working to criticise those out of work. However, we don’t all fit snugly into a pigeon hole, we are all different, with different lives, circumstances and skills….

  402. Steven DownieFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:05 pm

I am hoping that 2014 can provide me with the opportunity (in recruitment) that I have been searching for. An opportunity to work, even if it means on commission only. As long as I am given a platform to work with, then I can start to work towards my goal of creating success in my work grow so I can give them something back for the opportunity they have given me. But its all about being given an opportunity which are few and far between unfortunately.

  403. Jon TabbFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:05 pm

I would like to recover from my major spinal surgery in time for the new year, where I can find an employer that does not judge me for my “disability”, unlike the one that is trying to get rid of me. all I ask for is to be given the chance to prove myself and earn a decent living wage for me, my partner and my adopted son at six years of age,(his father died of cancer two years ago).

  404. GemmaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:05 pm

    My favourite quote

“Problems cannot be solved by the same level of thinking that created them” Einstien.

This is why I am entering this competition; in 2014 I am going to pro-actively take steps to make a change to my life. I believe that with guidance and the correct tools, I will be find a job that fulfils me, which I have no doubt have a domino effect on my personal life.

In 2014 my aim is to be happy, healthy and successful.

  405. Ian ButterfieldFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:06 pm

I would like to return to employment and do the job I have trained for and want to do again.
This will let me provide for my young family and give us the chances to become a happy family again.

  406. Beth ThomasFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:06 pm

I would like to finish my legal qualification and join a career path that will allow me to protect and preserve human rights.

I am currently going to struggle to do this as I am trying to find the funds to complete my course; the cuts to legal aid also mean that the employers I want to target are actually making cut backs, not hiring more people into this essential but overlooked element of our legal system. I am however determined to pursue this worthwhile and fulfilling path.

I want everyone to live in peace, i want everyone to get along with each other regardless their skin colour, height, weight or background. I wish this would happen in 2014 then ther would be less murders, less terrorist attacks and no more hate.

  410. Dani ChittyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:07 pm

I would like to see the Global Economy pick up from this recession which would in turn create new career opportunities and subsequent success for all those (including myself) out of work.

Also, I wish that President Obama finds a way to make Obamacare work price-wise by lifting up state restrictions for health insurance companies therefore driving competition and making healthcare more affordable to those middle class families that can pay for some of it, with free healthcare schemes, initiatives and clinics for those who are victim to extreme socio-economic poverty. Healthcare is at the core of freedom, i.e. not just for the rich, if we are to call ourselves part of the developed world, we simply can’t allow our sick to go dying in the street or worse destitute their families for a generation to acquire necessary life saving/prolonging treatment.

For Britain, I’d like there to be less xenophobic feeling towards Eastern Europeans “coming over here and stealing our jobs”. They are simply looking for ways to prosper for the well being of themselves and their families. People have been doing this for generations in the history of the world, so why should they be treated with such hatred for doing no different than many of our ancestors did years ago?

In terms of war on terror, I wish there to be a global united conflagration to those whose only wish is to spread hate and terror to the majority who want to live peacefully in this world. Only then can we reach a place of enlightenment and push forward to the next period in the history of man. This would also require a total disarmament of biological, radiological and chemical weapons of mass destruction. As well as this, our dictators need to be reached out to, to free the people trapped within their own home countries.

There are many more issues at hand that need to be solved but if anyone of these were to be solved or even the back broken of it then I know it would be a successful year of the new millennia.

I have 2 NVQ levels in hairdressing and college certificates in health & safety and safe moving and handling.
yet it seems it all accounts for nothing when you go to see an employer at an interview because they believe you do not have enough experience.

Since having my hairdressing NVQs i have not been able to find a job in that industry and have had to train myself through mobile work by styling/colouring hair for friends and relatives.

what i would like to see a change in 2014 is to give people the opportunity to prove themselves rather than get turned away at the sight of having no experience so that people can actually get ahead in their careers and their lives.

  414. Joshua GeorgasFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:08 pm

In 2014 I would like to see work and currency become redundant. In 2014 I would love to be able to achieve goals that we don’t necessarily have time for because of work. I want to see a utopian world where there is no financial stress and corruption, where there is no pressure to need to find a career path. In 2014 I want to be able to follow my dreams.

    Dear Totaljobs,

What will make 2014 better for me is a new laptop worth £679.99 and I also feel that a day’s career coaching with Job Academy host Aimee Bateman will be priceless. An ipad Air will be handy when I am on the move. A smart interview outfit from Debenham would be really nice and a new hairstyle from Toni & Guy. I also feel my CV needs a fuller makeover. A selection of career advise book will help heaps and offer me good advises and I love Marks and Spencers food, so that will be good for my lunch. I hope that Totaljobs can help me boost my career chance in 2014 and help me find and secure a job through the site, 2014 will be just much better with all these things (just joking). But I do appreciate if I could get all these wonderful gifts from Totaljobs 😀 , as I do feel it can help in my career path. 2013 hasn’t been exactly a good year even though I have a job and I do enjoy working, it is not exactly the career choice I truely want as my dream job is to be a Designer. So I hope 2014 will be the year when my dream come true. Thank you for reading and have a great 2014.

My three wishes are my little boy of 17 months growing out of his terrible twos, a happy marriage and the icing on the “chocolate” cake… to be ultimately the One offered the job.
This is what I would like to see happen in 2014.

There is nothing more frustrating than unfulfilled career dreams,it is more challenging especially when you invested time, resources and effort all in the hope that at the end of it all, the career change will be well worth it.

Unfortunately this is my predicament, but only for a short while though, why because perseverance shows character which in turn leads to result sooner or later! I am positive that 2014 will deliver for me, after all i am giving it all i have got and more…..!

I Graduated in 2003 as a computer network engineer in Sydney Australia. I worked as an IT Project manager/ IT manager for four years in Australia before my ex partner was severely injured in a car accident leaving me to care for her full time, until our relationship broke down in 2011. In 2012 I met a wonderful woman who I married and would like her to very much join me here.I move to England for a fresh start and hoped to get back into The IT industry. So far after a year of searching and over 1000 job applications and only 3 interviews still no IT job. At present I’m working as a temporary worker as an assembler to earn an income. I would like to find my dream job in 2014. And I would very much like my wife to join me

Firstly, I’d like to apologise in advance for the essay!

I believe the enterprising, entrepreneurial characteristics should be heavily incorporated into a new type of career position.

I’m not exactly sure how this could be structured… It could be some sort of division in the company or even a separate company who allocates development projects and related projects to individuals with resources and help. These projects will encourage the skills of that individual. Maybe there’s another way to go about it, I’m not sure, but, I believe it’s possible and should be done to help a large and growing demographic of people. Employers should look at the candidates as individuals who could dramatically influence the company, and potentially a very valuable asset.

Entrepreneurs are very stubborn in getting a job. They tend to understand the concept of working for others are quite pointless and have the view of “why should I work for anybody else, to get them more wealth, when I could be doing it myself?”.

    I believe by developing a new type of career position, it will have multiple benefits;
    – The companies, venture capitalists, etc who develop or take on this new style of employment will see a wave of incredibly enthusiastic individuals who can add huge value and potentially come up with some incredible products or services for them to use…
    – It will help entrepreneurs stay completely focused, have a perfect environment to develop their own ideas for themselves and for the company they’re working for…
    – It will also encourage people who aren’t necessarily entrepreneurial to step forward and take destiny and wealth into their own hands…

I think to encourage companies to do this; there should be a huge influence from a NEW section of government who helps nurture this idea.

This would be ideal for people like me who want to develop huge brands and companies, as we’ve all got to begin somewhere, and if people like me (or potentially like me) are looking for a job, this would suit them perfectly.

To conclude, I believe everybody should own a business; whether it’s a lifestyle business or a potentially large brand! I think this will push the economy further and make everybody very self motivated, with a good income and grow this country dramatically.

    ROBERT DE SOUZA, 19, LONDON.

I want employers to maintain their ageist attitudes for just a few more months. My job seeker’s allowance runs out on my 60th birthday. Roll on retirement and the easy life.

  425. AleksandrFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:11 pm

It’s great opportunity for everyone to get new life! In this case NEW life means – new job, very good job – job of your dream! So, if you can get job of your dream – you can reach what ever you dream are! Many people want to change their life, and it’s possible! In 2014 I want to get proper IT job, driving license, and my own house! I wish a good luck to everyone! Be lucky, and be happy!

  426. MichelineFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:12 pm

To chose my CV because of 2 criteria:
1- I worth the vacancy & new potential employer would do everything to retain me
2- it was sent through totaljobs

  427. JohnFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:12 pm

I would like the company that took me on in December to keep me on after the Christmas rush is over.after all a job should be for life,(oh those were the days).I’d also like to see everyone looking for work, get an interview, that is the best feeling,to know that a company wants to potentially hire you.
Then after.the interview, even if you didn’t get the position to give feedback on it,an email takes seconds, who else has sat by the phone/computer waiting?.
Finally I’d love to see someone in no.ten with the guts to put Britain back at the top,and not be dictated to by USA and Brussels.
Come on, Britain can be great again, all we need is determination.

  428. ReubenFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:12 pm

I’d like 2014 to be the year that I’m not afraid to just go for it…

The year where we realise that being realistic is the same thing as giving up.

The year where we finally realise that our real job is to connect to people, to interact with them in a way that leaves them better than we found them.

The year where we become so obsessed with serving and helping others with their dreams, that our own fall naturally in to place.

The year where our work week feels more like a work day. and our monday mornings have more of a good time friday afternoon feel – a “what am I going to achieve this week?” kind of frame of mind.

I think thats unrealistic enough to aim for….?

  429. Alexandru AnghelinaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:13 pm

Best thing I could hope for in 2014 is to get the job I want and use my 1st paycheck to buy my girlfriend a proper ring to ask her to marry me. That would make 2014 a best year of my life so far.

  430. felicity gradidgeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:13 pm

In 2014 I would love to see myself get back on my own two feet and be happy with a new carer which I will throw myself into.
As well as helping the people who helped me through of rough times of the year just past to say a HUGE thank you for being there for me.

  431. Jackie CooperFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:14 pm

I would like 2014 to bring about a fairer economy, where 0 contracted hours and part time vacancies are not the norm, but more oppotunities of full time positions and national minimum wage increased for everyone. This would hopefully bring more money into the economy as more people would be able to spend and put back into the economy, to keep the cycle going, along with the ability to be able to afford prescription charges.

I would then like to see progresion moving forward for those, like myself, who are more creative and jobs avaliable for people who do not have an academic mind, but are willing to work hard to achieve good things, creative skills can produce as much productivity as academic skills just needs to be honed the right way.

  432. NatalieFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:14 pm

I would like to see a permanent job and I would also like to continue working within employability and maybe train to be an advisor to help with long term unemployed to help them take the step into first time job roles

  433. Erika HunyadiFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:14 pm

I would like to get a job where I do not have to scare about I will lose it. I would like to get a job where I can feel I am useful and I can improve my knowledge and I can help to the people as well.
After I would like to have a baby and to feel my family in safe, because I can pay my-maybe my own-house, I can make them happy and to be aware we can live together in happiness and in health.

  434. KateFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:15 pm

    Not having a job sucks.
But there are lots of things that I’ve realised I can do to gain new skills whilst searching for work – volunteer, help out friends/family, take up a new hobby. It’s surprising what new skills I’ve been able to learn – if only to show me that I am capable of learning something that I thought I wasn’t good at – I’ve CAN draw after all!
2013 has been a terrible year for me & some of my close friends, but I’m heading into 2014 with renewed optimism and hope that things will improve.

  435. Jane HeeksFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:15 pm

I would love the government to help the long termed unemployed to get the help they need to be employable.
I would also like to get a new customer service job for myself to help with the everyday living expenses.
I would also like to be able to give support back to those who need it.

  436. PaoloFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:15 pm

I would like to get up in the morning, having my hair cut at Toni & Guy before getting my new smart suit at Debenhams.
On my way to day’s career coaching with Job Academy, I would read a selection of careers advice books and check my emails on my brand new iPad Air.
After the Fuller CV makeover, I would start sending my new CV (trough TotalJobs) using my new Acer Aspire V5 laptop.

Finally I will invite you all at Marks and Spencer for free drinks!
Peace and love to everybody in 2014 🙂

easy due to discrimination off a former employer then being made redundant off another it leaves me looking for another career, the jobcentere are a waste of time in providing any help and employers just only care about past experience not on what transferable skills i have, the work programme i have been placed on is not helping, started trying self employment but the jobcentre seem more bothered about deducting any income i make, its not like I`m not trying but just getting nowhere i just want to work

  438. iykeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:16 pm

I want to get into a better career that will enable me do things I couldn’t do at present. A job I will have passion doing, it’s not all about what I will benefit from employer but how my skills would benefit my employer and make an impact to the company I would be working for.

I would like to see the world as a place of peace for the many who are suffering across the globe. Yes we may see ourselves as less fortunate due to the difficult times that we see here in our country. But look at the places around the globe and realize we are far better than the many who don’t have what we have. So I say Thank God and cherish what we have and be patient for indeed we are not unfortunate but rather very fortunate to have what we have.

I am imagining myself sitting by the ocean, drinking out of a coconut with a blue paper umbrella sticking out of it. I am listening to the waves of the ocean crashing on the beach. My toes are sinking into the warm, soft sand. I have a beautiful man sitting beside me – he is smiling at me. I am staring at the bright blue sky and the hot sun is beating down on my blonde hair. Everything is fine back at home. I am holiday from my fantastic new career that presented itself to me. Life is wonderful. It is a glorious 2014! (A girl can dream!)

I would like to be debt free by ending of 2013 to 2014. I know a well paying job in the six figure range will help towards reaching my goal, but anything in-between will be a great help. Winning a CV makeover, career coaching, the laptop, the Ipad, the Cash, and the whole SHEBANG! Will definitely be a good start to 2014. Good Luck to me, and to the rest, better luck next time and happy holidays. God bless.

I wish for everyone to be given a fair chance when applying for a job based on their skills and expertise. Don’t think about luxuries, the joy you get from working in what you really want to work and have studied to do is priceless.

  445. LinaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:18 pm

It is sad to sit and read all those comments on here as all those people want is a job which will make their lives slightly better. I want the same. Good things come to those who wait(really wait), I guess… Best of luck everyone!

  446. MarthaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:18 pm

Finally I wanna change my life, because this year was the worst in my life – I lost job, friends and I stayed with mother care. If I win, I could show everyone that I’m still strong and my interpersonal skills are higher than other normal people. I had a lot of dreams, ambitions but I left this. Now I have only depression that I cant do what I wanted. I lost my life, help me. I want to win with myself.

  447. Diana GavazzoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:18 pm

What would I like to see happen in 2014?
Good question… but I’m changing it to “What I’m going to see happen in 2014?”
In 2014 I’m going to give myself a chance to do the thing I love most, and by doing so I’m going to hopefully inspire other people to do the same. I believe the world needs more people to go out and do what they do best and love the most.
2014 will be the next year I cross a few more things from my bucket list. 🙂
I want to help make other people’s dreams come true in 2014 too. I’m going to stay true to myself and do my utmost best to always be fair, determined, just and a good human being. Good things come to those who believe (and wait yes, so if I don’t win the computer I’ll have to go buy one!!). Anyway, I’m going to make sure 2014 will be my best year so far.

I’d like managment to actually manage and communicate better.
I’d also like a fair weeks wage for a fair days work! 😉
I’d also like your site to allow me to register my comments without it thinking that the other 1000 people registering a comment is me!
I’d also like to tell me mum that I was sexually abused in the Navy but it would probably kill her. 🙁

  449. AlixFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:19 pm

I would like the opportunity for a career change. I know I have so much more to deliver, I just need the right employer who will let me prove myself. I would love to finally have full time work, with regular hours and my weekends back. It would mean I would no longer have to worry about getting enough overtime to make ends meet, and also give me a chance to start saving up for bigger, better things. And finally learn how to drive! 2013 has been okay career wise, I know there are those worse off out there, but I would love the chance to finally get out there and show my potential and for people to recognise the experience I already have. 2014 is going to be my year, because I will make it so!

  450. Ahmed AhmedFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:20 pm

I just really want a job that when I wake up in the morning i’m excited to go to work because I am fully committed to it, whereas if I got a job where I felt like Godzilla every morning I wouldn’t be as motivated or even passionate. what i want for 2014 that I never had in 2013 is a job where I can be me and not somebody that is wearing mask and takes it off as soon as work is over.

  451. Andrew OgunmolaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:20 pm

The year 2013 has been a year of challenges and its about to end. 2014 shall be my year of new things, new job, new opportunities, the year which i will reunite with my family and to have the chance of a new beginning for me and my family. I would like to further my education to have a better job opportunity. These are my wishes for 2014.

  452. James WFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:20 pm

I would like to get a job to help me finance an MRes programme in Cancer Sciences starting in September.

  453. Nicola RutherfordFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:20 pm

I would love a stress free year, earn enough money to live on, without running out before the end of the month. I would like my family and I to live a happy and fulfilling life without money worries.

  454. Barry WrightFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:21 pm

It’s really very simple for me to gain employment in the Industry that I have spent 40 years in and for all the recruitment agencies to be honest and tell the truth as to why they always have candidates with more experience and are a better match to their clients requirements than I have (40 years really counts for nothing if you are over 55 years young What a laugh
I have one wish for 2014 to get that job and feel useful again “Any chances any one”

  455. Helen MorganFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:21 pm

As we spend a third of our day at work, I would like to find a position that will make me happy, give me longevity and security for the future as I have been made redundant 3 times after providing 10 years of loyal service twice so would appreciate someone giving me back some of the loyalty and hard work I put into my work daily. Maybe this complete makeover would provide me with the change of luck I so desperately need! Trying to stay positive is very hard when you go for interviews and are told you are too experienced for roles. I also wish everyone seeking employment could find what they need to make their lives better as it takes more muscles to frown than to smile!:-)

that peace is restored in the Middle east and Africa, that the poor refugees find relief and are able to return to their homes and families

all I need is someone to get back to me from all the 100 jobs I have applied for, just cant see the end of it, so please bring me some luck 2014

  459. JustynaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:22 pm

Dear New Year 2014 please bring me a ”something”
    what most I desire.
The ”something” need not be at all visible nor tangible, maybe even not smell, but let it be ”something” without I can not live …. JOB

  460. Ian MacFarlaneFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:23 pm

I would like the government to realise that (in general) employers are discriminating against “older” people looking for a “career” as oppose to a “job”. How’s that going to pan out when people can’t retire at 65-66-67-68-101?

I would like companies to realise that at 55 years old/ people still have drive, ambition and that ever valuable experience and at least 10 years working life in front of them.

As someone who has been looking for work for 12 months and who stayed with the same company for over 38 years (starting on the shop floor and finishing as a senior manager) it’s very very FRUSTRATING.

Seasons greeting to all and may those of you looking for work be successful in 2014

  461. Patrick GreenFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:23 pm

Recreation of vision to develop my passion and focus for the future.

The upcoming year 2014 should be a better year than 2013 for me or I’ll be the fool of the year gone. The wide implications of procrastination are germinating and the harvest is a deluge of weeds and dark, murky and unappealing waters.

To fail to plan is to plan to fail. Failure to plan, to prepare,to be creative and be proactive therefore, is a plan on it’s own. I have decide to deviate from the norm and embrace the future with confidence. Taking ownership of my own development.

This is so becoming to look like another new year resolution, flowing with the tide? I have decided to walk the tough road, to be persistently hard working and innovative in order to have within my grasp my evolved personality in an eureka.

David Cameron and the network of politicians, law and policy makers impacting my life and riding me hard? The economy that nosedived and is slowly crawling back up in an epileptic forum of spin doctors. These and more are stakeholders in the case scenario. Their objective my hope. What if they fail?

The suffering masses are making do with crumbs. This competition although a nice gesture by Total jobs is not enough for the multitude of unemployed to share in the Christmas bonanza. Your system will momentarily crash and will not be able to cope with the number of responses.

There seem to be no light behind the dark clouds. The mien of the people is lost in the cluttered applications for jobs sitting in the various bins across the different councils.

A generation lost? The whole picture is unfathomable in the light of the chaos, in the light of the dilemma of our generation.

The solution lies within the person. I have decided therefore, to recreate a vision, to develop my passion and focus for the future.

My help start with me. All things being equal the offal of the offerings of the government might make a healthy buffet at the turn of the new year.

  462. GeoffFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:23 pm

I want to give up the rat race and retire as I turn 60 in the spring.

  463. MarlonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:24 pm

Hi everyone, finding a good and stable job is my greatest target next year. So If I can have the opportunity to be hired sooner, I can continue my project to our very own mother earth be save through environmental and friendly power generation. Hoping this will be happen next year.

  464. Angela LopesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:24 pm

    I have a dream!
I would like that in 2014 someone (maybe me, in my new job in London city) will invent the teletransportation! 🙂

  465. BaduFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:24 pm

Hopefully get a job or an interview (feels like getting a degree was a waste of time ).
And hopefully the economy starts to pick up slightly so people can get in to work again.
    Japan next summer anyone?

  466. RobFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:24 pm

I would ideally like to be in the position to retrain for a change in direction and to land in a job that I am truly happy with , that would be a dream come true for 2014 .

  467. Tauffal AhmedFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:25 pm

I want to prove that like all of us we can all succeed and make something of ourselves no matter what happens 2014 I will find work and will do my best to build a future for myself and my family a future long term career ain’t just a dream it will be a reality.
I would like to see more in job training with employers giving people a chance to build to their strengths investment in people is the most important aspect in a successful business.

Good luck to everyone for 2014 don’t just be a statistic be what you want to be.

  468. John DaviesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:25 pm

What I would like to see happen in the new year 2014 !!

The British government would bring into place an act that would stop all politicians lying and spouting spin when asked a direct question to divert the truth from their parties or themselves.

Aliens to land on earth and help clean up this planet after the mess previous governments and countries have made of the environment and to establish world peace and bring about plentiful food, water and clean energy for every country and to eliminate greed.

But most of all I would like a job where I am appreciated, paid well for my hard work so I can be secure in my employment until I retire.

Merry Christmas to all lets hope 2014 is a good one for everyone 🙂

    John Davies.

  469. LorenzoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:25 pm

Mm it’s not easy about what I want for 2014, but a job I enjoy doing, no money is not important, it’s important you are happy with what you do, more happy you are, more you will achieve in your future , happiness comes from the inside ( not from the outside ) …. Remember it’s all up to you, what you achieve, where you go, what you will be, is dosen’t deepened on John, Michel or lucky who are around you, all is just up to you…how you present yourself in a interview, what job you will take to pay your bills, etc. ( yes I am unemployed , over 40, not married, no family in short I have nothing, but I know if I really want it I will get everything in 2014 ) and I always keep this in my minde “I am not 40, I am 18 with 22 years of expiriance ” 🙂

  470. sharon ann stillFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:26 pm

I simply wish job hunting was not age discriminate so that people with a longer career history are not feared as being over powering or over talented to the younger interviewer..
I am very age proud and career history proud .. still hunting ….

  471. Daniel HawkinsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:26 pm

I would like to get a job that gives me the opportunity to use and improve on the skills that i have learned. Gaining experience that enables me to carve out a career in the Graphic Design Industry!

  472. Annette SummersFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:26 pm

Itwould be great if I won the lottery, got my ideal job with a good wage lol. Make some new friends and make mine and my familys’ life a bit better and brighter 🙂

  473. mogumoguFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:27 pm

I would like not to see happen in 2014
    Losing home
    Losing job
    Losing family
    Losing friends
    Losing my confidence
    Which all happened in 2013
The only thing I would not mind was
    Losing my weight!

    • Shaun DeanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 6:33 pm

I would like to see the job centre empty

  474. CharlotteFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:27 pm

I would really benefit from this equipment In order to help my freelance graphic design career or just to be able to work from home whilst also taking care of my grandparents. This competition is too good to be true and I would really make the most of the prizes in so many ways I couldn’t even start to list them. Needless to say it would be life changing at this point for me.

  475. Darren SummersbyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:27 pm

I would like a new job and earn good money to be able to buy stuff like this so I don’t have to enter competitions to win this stuff.

  476. william bowenFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:28 pm

2013 has been a tough year I hope in 2014 that as a family we can get back to some normality starting with my wifes tumour going and never coming back and a career / job offer that sees the potential in a 44 year old – surely someone will take a chance on me.

  477. Anna PearmanFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:28 pm

I would like to be given the opportunity to learn and train within a position to enable me to make a much needed career change.

  478. Brendan WalshFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:28 pm

I would like to see Great Britain stop gifting money abroad and instead use that money to create more jobs in this country, once this is achieved and Great Britain has a healthy economy and is out of debt, then help other countries.

  479. Tony PuckeyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:29 pm

To retain a degree of idealism, without hiding too much of it behind a carapace of scepticism.
That;and to continue playing handball with my kids in the lounge without breaking anything…..further.
Ultimately though,to find a job after taking this leap of faith!

  480. AlbertFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:29 pm

I want peace, jobs and FAIR chances for everybody, and a Business career for me! Also, why dont you split the prize in 10 people instead of all just for one?¿

  481. Jeremy JonesFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:30 pm

It’s simple to me and came to me straight away. After the tragic news of the legendary Nelson Mandela, I was distraught. This came at an extremely surprising time since I am about to go to Malawi to volunteer for 3 months. I had further thoughts and realised that the best thing that could ever happen in 2014 is for the whole World to finally take in and use Mandela’s lessons to get the best out of the World. It all starts in Africa, helping Africa show their true colours by the whole continent supporting each other in achieving a branch-like structure to help each other come out of poverty, eradicate HIV/AIDS, build a sustainable living and become a first-world continent as a whole. In a nut-shell, as you see the United States of America and the European Union; why can there not be a United Africa?!

  482. NinaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:30 pm

What I would like to see in 2014:

After seeing 2 close friends suffer from and be taken away by cancer in the past year, I am determined to look for silver linings – 50 is but the youth of age!

Hearing “You’re Hired” would keep me Inspired!

  483. Helen MorganFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:30 pm

I dont want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing i need, i dont care about the presents, underneath the Christmas tree, i just want you for my own, more than you could ever know, make my wish come truuuuuuuuue, all I want for Christmas is a job with uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu! 🙂
Joking aside, it would make my year!!!!!

  484. NasrinFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:31 pm

2014 would be much better year for me than 2013 if I could see my parents who live abroad (as I have not seen them for last 2 years) and I wish to start my BPTC, unfortunately, I wont be able to start it if I cant secure a permanent job to pay for course fee. So, I have two wishes for 2014, If I could see my parents and get a Job to complete my BPTC and make a career progression.

  485. K H CheungFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:31 pm

Have been applying for around 10 jobs a day in anticipation of getting back into work. Having lost my home and my family, it would nice to get a job, visit my two boys (different parts of the country) and have a place of my own again, as I currently have no fixed abode. I know that if I do get a job, I will no longer be stressed, depressed and anxious all the time. The additional thought of having some quality family time would be so beneficial to me and my children. I am prepared to work hard and improve my situation at any cost. All the best, merry christmas and a very happy new year.

Also a nice secure environment were i can let my creative juices flow….

  489. KatrinaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:32 pm

I’ve been made redundant 3 times in less than 2 years, not because of a lack if skills & experience but because of restructures & the new demands on companies. I have learnt so much during this time, and as a result my work ethics are stronger because of it. The redundancies make me look like a liability on paper, not the victim of bad luck & circumstance. I just want the recognition & financials I deserve.

  490. M. AliFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:32 pm

As an Artist , will wipe all 2013 dark marks ,, draw white thoughts, green, orange optimistic ideas and red energy to start my new job.
Will illustrate good feelings all the way to the interview, will draw blue sky on bus and underground, will mix colours all the way through.
Will frame all that along with my little daughter picture and put them on my work desk on my first day of work, sit and think ( That was my best artwork)..

Things a new job in 2014 will get me: A new home, a sense of self worth, an electric toothbrush, nights out with friends, a gym membership, a chance to start saving and start planning a family, be able to afford to get my name changed back to maiden since my divorce, marry my new boyfriend and enough money to fund my love of gothic fashion 🙂
Too many job seekers and just not enough jobs… Hopefully things will get better in the future. All the best to everyone who entered, and to everyone looking for work like myself.

  504. JoFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:37 pm

As 2014 begins I will loose a job I love due to ill health under the heading incapability. However I am more than capable to work from home. With the prospect of being unemployed,I decided the only way to earn a living with the flexibility my illness requires, was to set up in business for myself.I spend all my time working online so the obvious course for me was to become a social media manager.I have built my website, completed a massive amount of training, drawn up my marketing plan and spent what little money I had in the process.I have many skills that need to be well presented to show that I really am as amazing as my CV says. When I launch my new career in early 2014 I would like to meet prospective clients wearing something other than my pink bobbled onsie with the hood. The hood will be essential to hide my grey roots and unstyled hair.I would like to do demonstrations and impress them with my online skills, my notepad and pen are very basic.I just hope they dont need advice on using an ipad,as iv never had the pleasure of learning to use one myself. My weakness is selling myself on a one to one/ face to face basis even though I totally believe in myself and my ability to deliver.Bring it on 2014.

  509. LisaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:39 pm

Simple. To move out of my parents house like the guy of the Lloyds bank advert, get an environmental consultant job after I finish my masters related to Environmental Impact Assessment and be able to afford a new dress without the concern of money worries. Financially, its been difficult this year with having to commute to and from my uni (Manchester)from my savings and working long hours at a retail shop at £6.31. Overall, to see the light at the end of the tunnel and have my determination pay off. Thanks.

  510. Anthony WilliamsFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:39 pm

All I want for Christmas is Anthony Williams brain and to win something, just once in my life. The rest I’ll manage. Thank you and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

  511. Andrew BellFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:40 pm

Simply, I would like to wish everyone registered with Totaljobs a very, merry Christmas and hopefully a fantastic new ‘working’ year. I’ve just written this ditty to the tune of 12 days of Christmas as a wish list I would like to see happening in 2014 for my fellow jobseekers and me, and it’s quite appropriate as it’s the 13th Dec today.

With 12 days ’til Christmas I’d truly love to see:
    Twelve Plumbers’ Plumbing
    Eleven Typists’ Typing
    Ten Bills all Paying
    Nine Ladies Nursing
    Eight Farmers Milking
    Seven Seamstress’ Sewing
    Six Tilers’ Laying
    Five Golden Rings (from Employers)
    Four Call Centre Leads
    Three Fresh Starts
    Two Total Jobs
and a Part-time Role for Charity

  512. GrahamFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:40 pm

    Hello.
I would like to see a new car in my drive as the one I have right now is so weak and slow that it wouldn’t pull a greasy stick out of a dogs bum 🙂
    Well you asked 🙂

  513. Alessandro GuidiFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:40 pm

For my daughter Luna… She still Believe in Santa Claus!!!

  514. MurrayFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:41 pm

In the new year I will become a dad for the first time (end of may). This alone will make my year amazing. All I want is for mum and baby to be healthy and happy.

A lot of uncertainty still looms as I am still looking for work. I am studying towards an accountancy qualification from home that will hopefully give me some more work opportunities. Finding work has been difficult, I have applied for lots of jobs just have not been lucky yet. I hope to find something soon so we can properly plan our future and provide a good home for our new family. I want to leave the uncertainty in 2013!

Positive thinking and fingers and toes crossed all will be well. Here’s another person hoping the new year 2014 will be their year, ha 😉

I’d like to move up in my career so that I’d be able to look after my elderly mother and maybe be able to get us a little place of our own.

I am fortunate enough to thoroughly enjoy my current position, employer and workplace. I am employed on a weekly contract via an employement agency. My wish for 2014 would be to follow through to the next stage of employment as a direct employee enabling me to feel the contentment and security of being employed direct.

    Hi

I dont want to talk about the good or bad things in life like everyone else. Its all part of life and there is nothing new about that. I just want to win the prize as it will help and might even boost my job search chances.

P.S. Since your surname is HAyes and I live in Hayes, do I have a better chance to be selected ? 🙂

    Yours Sincerely
    Sabah

I’d like Positive Money’s quest to be realized, where banks can no longer issue money; I’d like all politicians, regardless of party, to live on their country’s minimum wage for 6 months; I’d like parents to educate their children and teachers to teach and stop trying to educate; I’d like everyone to forget about political correctness; I’d like massive respect for the environment; I’d like everyone to constantly remember what it’s like to be in the next guy’s shoes; I’d like all unwanted domestic animals to be sterilized; I’d like my workplace to thrive and prosper; I’d like to live much nearer to the people I love; I’d like my husband to stop snoring and my children to find what they’re striving for. I’d like to be mysterious and serene as well as long and slim. Happy New Year, World!

To have a happy 2014, with my little family and an excellent job – which will also help with our financial needs!

  521. Mark NFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:43 pm

My career was in a groove,
a rut, for many a year.
    “Perhaps I ought to move
but it’s easy to stay here”

    Then I had a visit
    from a manager on high:
“Your time here’s at its limit…
    it’s time to say goodbye!”

So a new post I must find
now that I am out and free,
shake the cobwebs from my mind
    and dust off my CV.

    In two thousand and fourteen
    I must search and see
if all that I have learnt and been
will open golden doors for me…”

For 2014 I would like to see gainful employment and success for all who strive to better themselves, happiness in abundance and a transition from our current position of stagnation into a world where the growth and development of humanity is not intrinsically linked to the exploitation of finite resources.

Not too much to ask is it?

    Into my inbox I wander
As usual no offers to ponder
    One caught the eye
    Lets not be shy
This chance I shall not squander

    Yes,thirteen, somewhat static
    Fourteen, hopefully dramatic
    Hope for a chance
    My life will enhance
As my rhyming is pretty erratic

So here to change, I toast
Next year a job to boast
    Some get up and go
    Put on a show
Prove last year is only a ghost

So next year I may succeed
    I know its not guaranteed
    But with lots of ambition
    To achieve in my mission
I might be wearing some tweed!

After over two and a half years of unemployment, I would like to get a job. Seems that twenty years of experience and two degrees doesn’t even get you in for an interview these days…

  527. Matthew KirkFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:45 pm

I put everything into making my dream career work, even taking an apprenticeship on at the same time as a degree and moving abroad only to find that the market simply is not there. I would like an employer to see my enthusiasm to learn and apply myself in a new career.

  528. MimiFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:45 pm

What I would like to see happen in 2014 – people being less stressed and more smiley, less gossips and more words of love, less time spent at work and more time with family and friends, I wish people didn’t have to run after money so much so they can enjoy their time with loved ones instead! And as for me I wish I could be with my mum & sis more often; I love them but bad economy in my country doesn’t allow me to stay and live there with them.

  529. Steffen SchillerFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:46 pm

I would like to see my career moving into a more satisfying and interesting direction – that means a new position and maybe even a career change. I want to find the pleasure in my work again!

really, i would like to find jobs via total jobs.com in up coming year in 2014. this is one of the most valuable opportunity to find jobs.

  534. NanaFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:47 pm

In 2014 I would like to see a lot of stuff happened, but the most important is a to find a job that I actually would enjoy. I mean everybody knows how is it usually in an english office, but a bit of humor and creativity would harm nobody. I personally, I am a creative person and highly adaptable what gives me the opportunity to choose from more than one environment where to work, but again if you don’t have already 5 years experience nobody want’s employ you. So basically you supposed to be born already with some work experience right, because it doesn’t really matter whether you’re a graduate or not, until you don’t have the required experience don’t make yourself hopes. So that means when you have no chance to get experience because of that, that you don’t have any experience yet, you won’t have any…… So now what’s the solution, anybody knows?

  535. John BoschFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:47 pm

I would like that ALL jobless people get a decent job and a decent life for 2014 ! As far as for me, I already have a Life with no health problems, I would like to work for a Company that doesn’t consider a number, or work for myself and be able to pay all my bills at the end of the month and have some saved as well. Maybe I need a coach ! Merry Xmas and Happy New Year 2014 to ALL !

  536. Alexander McCreadieFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:48 pm

I am a 20 year old guy living in Hertfordshire.
My mum immigrated to Spain 2 years ago when I just turned 18. She left with her husband and left me in the UK on my own.
I had a job in retail in London and at first I was doing ok.
Soon after my mum left, I realised I was living with a physco drug addict and turned a blind eye to it but when his friend assaulted me whilst fueled on drugs I realised I had to get out of there.
I then decided to move to London because it would be cheaper and easier for my job!
I was living on about £950 a month which is not a lot after rent was paid.
I very quickly became depressed and started a course of anti depressants.
I lost my job as I could not longer cope anymore with the stress that life had thrown at me.
I was living in a small box room on my own away from all my friends in a rough part of London.
I then had no money to pay for rent and because I had to leave my shared house I also lost my deposit. I was taken in by various organisations like shelter housing and the YMCA.
Now that I have dealt with my issues and sorted my life out,
I’m now looking for a job in reception or admin as I love working with people.
This isn’t a sob story or a cry for help. It is a statement to say that I have been through a lot as a young person and during this time, whilst I’m looking for work, it would be really nice to have a little Christmas treat to help me.
I hope that anyone who reads this can feel inspired that no matter what happens in life, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger! If you want something, you have to go out into the world and get it. Stay strong and positive and always hope for the best!

    My goal for 2014

First I want to take a moment to acknowledge 2013 as the best year of my life so far; because it was the year that I took hold of my mind and put it on a direct path towards success. Having struggled several years before, it occurred to me that nothing was going to change for me unless I took hold of my mindset and changed it towards the mindset of a successful person. That was my goal this year and suffices to say I have been blessed with the capacity to realize my dream and I am grateful for the support and opportunities that have lead to this massive leap.
For 2014, I envision a year where my primary focus would be to take active steps towards developing the connections that will fuel long term prosperity. It will constitute a network of influential figures with valuable experience, skills and attitudes that will contribute positively towards my career. These individuals will be successful in their respective careers with knowledge and experience that I can take full advantage of. I will go the extra mile to provide them with service the extent of which I currently possess and in that process I will develop myself with their advice and support in the faith that their influence will yield a positive effect on me.
I have decided that external circumstances will not determine the outcome of 2014; they will merely provide me with opportunities to adapt and grow as an individual. No matter what the environment is, I will be resourceful to find a way such that I and those involved profit (in a lawful capacity if I might add).
I will conclude by expressing my gratitude to Total jobs for setting up this competition. It has allowed me an opportunity to reflect on the gains I have had this year and inspire me to express the direction of my future. Win or lose, you can hold me accountable to realize this dream, and I will be happy to return to give a testimony on your website and hopefully inspire others with my journey.

    Thank you

For the year 2014 I want my business to improve and to make the right partnerships with the right people.Financial development is very important for a person because it allows us to buy the things we need and the things we desire for us and also for our beloved ones. To gain financial independence should be a major goal for everybody and even though there are many more other things which are a lot more important than money like, family, peace of mind, we ca not live a good life without them.
So basically for the 2014 I want that everybody to improve theirs financial status by developing new business, gaining better jobs, making better investments, so we can afford the life we want and to help the people we love.

  545. Paul MilamFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 2:51 pm

In 2013 I was made redundant, lost my job and my home, struggled to find anyone willing to give me the time of day let alone an interview me and employ me.

So in 2014 I would like a new job that pays the bills and I find for filling and worth while, a new home that i can call my own and share it with my partner.

I just want to be happy, homed and a satisfying job, too much to ask?

My big ambition is to be a world class cricketer. Next to that would be to have my own cricket coaching business. But the ultimate at this moment in time is to get a job, any job. My parents have supported me and bank rolled me for many years and it’s time I repaid some of that back. My grandfather died back in June and it’s been a very upsetting time. I want to get a job that he would be proud of me having. I’ve done some silly things in my short life but now I want prove to all my critics that I have changed for the better.

After 27 years of working I now find myself in the same position as millions of others. So, what do I want now?

Do I want to be paid a ridiculously high salary with all of the benefits that I could ever want?
Do I want to be the big boss and have lots of people running around at my beck and call?

No – I want an employer who will simply give me a fair salary for a fair days work done and appreciate what I do. I want someone who understands when help and support is needed and looks to bring the best out of people. An enjoyable atmosphere, nice people, praise when it’s due. These to me are the important things that keep getting me out of bed in the morning.

2014 has to be all about finding the right place for ME.

ST.MATTHEW22:39 And the second is like unto the First. THOU
SHALT LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR AS THYSELF. I believe this is true. I am 78 years, a pensioner, have no need to peril myself to work now, BUT I AM SCROUGING THE PAGES FOR A JOB TO FINANCE A FRIEND WITH £4000.00 IN NIGERIA, who is held to rand some as she got sick and cannot work with a broken left leg. The people who she went there to work for was/is her employers, who spent on her fares and accommodation. They have her passport, and would not release it unless she pays them all the money they spent on her.
Because of this reason, I must, (MUST) get a job, even though it is £5.00 per hout, or £16.00 per hour, as I am a shit house cleaner as well as a coded welder. However, in between those two, I have to consider my age and health, so I tread on safety net. Just before writing this, I have replied to vacancy that just came out, and I am sure, I will be considered. I tell all you readers who are reading this of the result, (as my God has never let me down from 2005 when He discovered me). I have 26 Miracles since 2005 to present, but if i get this job, I will not consider it to be 27, as it can go either way. Whoever is interested to know the result, check me out. This is my Neighbour I care about. Love(or better known as care.)for one another, and this wotld will be a Happier World for all to live in. Ras.

Definitely new laptop would give me better opportunities to find a perfect job. I would not have to beg my old one to work properly and don’t delete my e-mails and favourites websites when it has a bad working day. I could create the best CV and I hope to find this one carefully waited job which give me the high level of satisfaction and enough money to live without thinking how to get money to pay all the duties. I hope my family and dogs be in a good health, because having each other gives me the power to fight with adversity. 2014 has to be better – how long can I wait for the happiness and complacency? Definitely NO MORE!

In 2014, I am going to need immense resources and help from Total Jobs to get the perfect job I need to move my family to Norfolk. We need to sell our house in Hertfordshire and move to Norfolk to be closer to elderly parents and other family and to give our kids a safer and fitter upbringing. Finding the most suitable role, that makes use of my abilities, close to our new home, arranging job interviews whilst moving to a new house will be a formidable task but I’m sure Total Jobs will be up to the task.

After an unintentionally long hiatus I just want to get back into a position where I can pay my way in the world at large. But more importantly, a job where coming to work is fun, as are the people I work with, and the final product for the customer is a joy to behold.

    Dear total jobs,

The New Year is only 18 days to start and I am 19 days to become a mother.

I wish 2014 can bring new experiences, new adventures and most important peace in this crazy world where we live.

Change is what we are all waiting for. Some will cut their hair, others will change their address or jobs. So, if jobs are the main point of 2014, getting a new job is also need a new pack of services, which will do our lives easier.

    Therefore,

dear Total job, please don’t forget to leave something on my Christmas tree.

    With love

    Linda Costa

I want to explore different job fields and find what best suits me, up for trying anything, long term career goal is to be permanently employed in a job I enjoy, I could also do with the CV Makeover… Probably my downfall.

  575. Alistair BarronFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:01 pm

I have been out of work for quite some time now, earlier I was my wife,s main Carer for many years, until she passed away in 2010. I’m not in the least idle and I have been trying so hard to get employment with a dozen or so interviews this year alone, but it’s far from easy, who in their right mind would not like to work, it’s near nigh impossible to survive on job seekers allowance. I also have a three roomed house and have to pay extra for the two surplus bedrooms, no getting away from it, as you can imagine there’s not much left time you pay your bills and get your shopping. Having been unemployed for so long has left me all but withered and quite withdrawn, the thought of actually getting a job now and being successful fills me with utter dread, I have little or no confidence and my thoughts occasionally drift into depression and at times I just feel like ending the suffering.

  576. Mike O'KeeffeFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:02 pm

I would like people to be able to get the jobs that make them happy rather than sticking with a job just because they can’t afford to change (taking a drop in pay, extra travel expenses, etc).
Live to work, not work to live.

  577. Kim ThorntonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:02 pm

Some happiness would be nice. To get back what we put in, respect and progression would be a good start. Improved pay but hey who am I kidding. To find my place in this world!

  579. Elizabeth GloverFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:03 pm

2014 would bring me a job that is both creative and hands on. I am 55, divorced now single, brought up 5 children all with University degrees and working. Started my career late landed an excellent high paid job as a Lecturer of IT/Multimedia after lots of qualifications and training. Lost job after 10 years because of a Gay Bully, started new career (limited contract)in 2008 and found I love helping solve other peoples problems, marketing and PR event planning with B2B contact. Then went on to create training materials for Network Rail only to be made redundant Christmas 2010. Thousands of job applications 3 interviews later – still no job. So stressed and depressed on ESA. Would start own business but no funding – want even just a well paid part-time job event planning or PR so I can start my own business and get a happier life. I also want the large house to sell in 2014 so I can downsize and money for holiday and to buy the children, their partners and grandchildren pressies. Please choose me x

I qualified as a solicitor in 2008 after over years of rigorous study and training. Unfortunately due to the recession I was not able to secure a position at my training firm. I have to date spent over 800 hours over 3 years (2010 to 2013) volunteering with various charities providing my legal services for free to do something for the greater good and keep my skills up to date. I have help many vulnerable clients get the advice they need. I also won a pregitious national legal award for my pro bono services last year which got me in the legal press. Despite all that hard work and effort I still haven’t managed to secure permanent work. I have had a few temp roles and undertaken a few non-legal internshisp but it’s been incredible hard. I have been, over this year, proactively trying to change careers and interviewing for different positions although I haven’t secured anything as of yet. Finding a new career path and securing a job that I love would make my 2014 the best year ever. As confucious once said ‘choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.’ That’s what I am aiming for in 2014.

I’m hoping to take the next step in a long-fought recovery and return to work from illness, by moving on from my current employer. I’m ready to leave the safe environment of the familiar and take on a new challenge elsewhere, keen to move onto the next stage in my career and put my illness behind me. The clothes vouchers would really be handy – I had to buy a whole new wardrobe when I returned to work due to weight-loss and my work clothes are in need of a refresh again. I’m also aiming to finish my part-time Masters to push forward my career again. Winning that laptop would certainly make the dissertation writing a lot less painful!

Fingers crossed anyway. I’m hoping for a positive start to 2014!

    2013 oh what a year,
    The employers promise so much,
When they have you, they use you for what they can get,
    A number on the payroll,
    We’re better than that ,
    Why are they so shallow?
We’re people with feelings, can they not see that?
    Treat us with respect,
    In return,
We promise to do our best!

Total Jobs is the easiest website in order to apply for jobs. They have made the process very user friendly.

  589. Borislav NikolovFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:07 pm

Nowadays it’s really hard to find a job after graduating. People have been studying all their life, being prepared to be employees. Also paying tons of money for university diplomas and can’t get the job that they want. It’s so frustrating when some employers desire +5 years experience (for example) for the most positions. So people had to start working before they even finish high school? No, I don’t think so. Nobody will hire under-age person.
If someday I finally get a job and reach important role in a company. I would make as much as possible internship programs. I won’t choose only the best from the group. I will make all of them “The Best”, because no one is born with knowledge.

I am entering this competition, to have the chance to make My Children, as Proud of Me, as I am of them!
I have just been laid off, from a 5 month Agency job, that took Me back to My Engineering roots. Having been Unemployed for the 3 years prior to that, I now have My Zest for working back! 🙂
I would really love to get a permanent position in 2014, so that I can give My Kid’s things that they really deserve, and I can start ‘living’ again.

I have a very unusual story, quite long but necessary. Ever since I was 17 in 2006 ,I have dedicated my life to following my dream as a professional musician. We started our band ‘The Milkmen’ as a college project in Australia and since then I haven’t seen my life going any other way. We would play lots of gigs mostly unpaid and I would do various random jobs to keep my self going. I mainly worked for my dad’s entertainment company, I also did a bit of signwriting and shop fitting for a while. After battling many obstacles in our pursuit of succes we still find ourselves pushing on as the more we put intothe band, the harder it is to give up. In 2011 our drummer had to move back to France after using up all his Australian visas, in June last year we decided to make to the move back to England (we were born here) so our drummer could move here and we could pursue our music career. It has been so much harder for us over here, it’s like starting all over again. We are not getting the break we deserve and it is just getting harder. Four of us live in Portsmouth in a one bedroom flat literally suffering for our art, I have been working a day here and there for agencies. At the moment I have worked 3 days in the past month and I have been trying my best. There is no work for me, it seems like there is always some else with more experience. I have never focused on a back up career as my attitude towards my dream was ‘ if I have a back up plan then I’m not putting 100% into the band’ kind of foolish I know. But I have more passion than sense.

I met a girl recently and she is amazing, it got me thinking ‘ how am I ever going to be able to have a normal life (wife and kids etc) if I don’t have a career or even a full time job.? I think it’s time to focus on a back up plan too, please consider me for this prize as it is exactly what I need right now, thanks

I want the USA to kick its economy in to gear and start growing at over 3%. I want China to stop picking on smaller countries, and start concentrating on its environment. China is ruining everything for its people: it needs to stop aiming for worlds largest economy because it won’t happen. China is too depended on exports and infrastructure investments. We shouldn’t worry about China too much it will mess up soon and its GDP growth rate will drop below 4%. Japan should free up its services industry and get its economy growing. Japan would double its Nominal GDP if it got its companies investing. Japanese companies are said to be sitting on 2.7 trillion dollars of cash; more than the USA. Also, the North Korean government should collapse and allow South Korea to take all its land back and help all the 20 million people who live in North Korea. The Philippines should get on with building more infrastructure, their corrupt government needs to wake up and get its population working and enjoying life. The Philippines should be growing at over 8% GDP but its government keeps being cautious and not grasping the brilliant opportunity it has right now: lots of readily available money and an abundant labour force. If all that happens, 2014 should be a good year for me. I am fine being poor, just as long as someone is happy.

I would very much like to find a decent solid job in 2014 as I do t want to find myself sat on a park bench peering into a half empty bottle of white lightening, especially not in winter! Possibly wouldn’t be too bad in summer, anyway, I digress, a good job would mean the world to me as working is all I have ever done and being out of work means I struggle to go out and get rejected by women every weekend. Cheers

“1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
    2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard.
    3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.
    4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.
    5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.”
    (Martino, J. Huffington Post, 2013)

If i can have a job that permits me to achieve even one of these five things by the time i reach my final days, then i will be luckier than most.

If i am part of this rat race,
I will not do it just to save face,
i will do it for others,
    my friends and my lover,
For this life is not one to waste.

DEAR MR PRIME MINISTER TELL ME WHAT TO DO OUR COUNTRY’S GOT MORE PROBLEMS THEN ME AND YOU.
im 25 years old and live in london i want a job as long as it pays the bills im good to go. i believe in good old traditions work hard play hard and apply this to our modern society.i have been to a lot of recruitment’s and passed the assessments but the funny thing is prior to start date i get told an excuse or a white lie sorry your application is denied, after the travel cost phone bill to registering your self example photo id pics my pockets feel kind of light and my mind all over the place,im not going to lie i have a criminal record nothing major and there is thousands of people in uk in the same situation and loose hope because someone somewhere don’t bother to do the evaluation right. There’s even times im telling employers, i dont want to mention any names i dont want to get in trouble where im saying im willing to work for free try me see how i do while there are recruiting big numbers of people all age backgrounds and im getting a polite rejection. Am not hateing on any body but lets see it from the rearview things i have seen are ridiculous in the country that we live and grew up in, i had a few ups and downs who has not i do have education and employment history but i feel like im in catch 22 situation if don’t declare my criminal record or i do declare my record cut me a break after all the education and work experience with a smile i have what employers look for do i really need all this to even get a example a cleaning job mop and hoover. The reality is this everything that is made is made and everything that is broken is broken and it will be like that the way our country is operating i don’t blame the department of work and pension they are providing a great service its on the individual how hard they try your job is your job by looking for a job till you find something and you should not give up like me. what we need is a fresh approach to everything and all the things that are happening in our economy society there are parents and single parents, students, migrant workers, low paid and high paid educated and uneducated skilled and unskilled national and international people, privet and government sectors we have a lot of gaps that are AWOL gone walkies etc… how can i give a advise to somebody when i dont have a job to begin with its a messed up situation for a common man sometimes i think nobody wants to work or do business with some one that is not on they level some times you have to fake it to make it in the rat race we created in our society and we have sectioned everyone to they allocated positions there is no promotion. people want to surround them self with people that look or act successful and not broke so they can say what made it successfull it must be doing good i want to be in business with that otherwise no one wants to do anything with you. Me personally im tired and sick for working here and there for cash in hand small jobs i want to establish and have a career after all the experience and education and the country’s i have been and seen and tooled my self up with knowledge i want a simple job were i can have a uniform or a name badge contribute to my national insurance and live life save up and settle down simple and plain i have brother and sister younger then me i have to raise the bar and set the standerd high and help my mum out am not asking im not asking if i had a dream im building elevators in it just throw the rope so i can climb it lol. if not im have to take out a loan get a degree and go abroad but aint giving up yet. Lord I am not perfect by a long shot, I confess to you dearly,But I work harder every day,And I hope that you hear me,In my heart I mean well,But if you help me grow,Then what i have in my heart will begin to show, And when I get goin I’m not lookin back for nothin,Cause I will know where I’m headed. Lord knows what im capable of and am not going back to that life style Any way cheer up people patience is key to success and i wish you lot all to have a descent honest job its been more then 24hours i been up looking for a jobs and filling out apps i came across this i had to fill this out. Any qustions feel free to ask me. thanks bye.

I want a nice Jaguar car in which I can get the two most beautiful ladies of my life, my mum and my wife, sit with me. I want 2014 to be the year in which I can find the right direction through right job to pursue this nice dream of life.

  605. Danielle NashFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:12 pm

This is probably not going to win but I figured if I write it down, it’s making a promise to myself to achieve it.

What would I like to see in 2014

    2014,
    Unemployment figures falling.
    New possibilities in areas
For the minorities who scare us.
More exams in schools from a younger age
Recognition for those who don’t make the front page,
    The Brave.
    The Selfless.

    2014,
    Energy Bills falling.
More live instruments in the charts,
    Meaningful marriages, less broken hearts.
    More uni scholarships,
Smaller wait on the transplant lists.
    Love harder
    Carpe Diem

2014 my list can go on, for what I wish to be better than the previous years gone. Like to have more universal respect for women, but also teach women to respect themselves. To learn from cyclic mistakes and see failure as success and be proud of ourselves.
What would make 2014 better than 2013 for me
I want an income to live comfortably like everyone else. I’ve shared a small room with my sister my entire life, by the end of 2014 I would like to move out to a place where I have enough space to write my music and hopefully have neighbours who don’t mind my sax. Be able to drive and have a car not too big to pay a lot for petrol, but big enough to be able to carry the groceries back in the back seat and the boot rather than the bus. I will achieve this somehow by the end of 2014 and that’s my promise to myself.

  606. Karl ShatfordFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:13 pm

I want world peace, an end to child poverty, all religions to live in harnony and for world leaders to follow the Mandela model. Oh and to play my part and contribute in some small way, whilst smiling.

I would like to find a job in managment to show the oppressive corporate structure that there are good people out there weather you are a mum, dad, grand father of any age, sex, or creed that we are called GREAT Briton for sencertivity ,encouragement and to allow all employees and employers to work in absolute harmony as part of a big picture of life, communicating on every level for a brighter fairer equal future for all who contribute to this gorgeous country, investments is not allways about money it’s about building relationships outside the four wall of a office and giving back to community’s. They say “charity starts at home” no it starts by us all making concous efforts to do something good on a daily basis and go fourth with this all tell all life is to be enjoyed not endured.

Well they sure act as though unemployent keeps going down every month and everything is peachy keen – well the jobs availble are low payng and reduced to below 40 a week – also many are still unemployed but the numers keep coming down according to the government – what a crock!!

  610. Chas LawsonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:14 pm

In 2014 I would like a fresh start. I have recently lost my house and partner and now I am gearing up to start from scratch at the age of 34. I don’t want to sit back and get stuck in a rut or even dwell over how life could have been if I’d done things different. My 52 year old step father has just started taking courses to improve his career and if he’s got the will and spirit then I don’t see why I can’t. I want to start a new career that can give me skills and experience for the future that will see me being employable for the rest of my life.

What I really want is a job that pays well and its not just a temporary job.Plus I really would love to see Alec Salmond shipwrecked on a desert island with no chance of being rescued. Also I think that all MP’s should reject their pay offer and learn themselves how to live on a pittance just to see how hard life is really like.

  614. Jackie TaylorFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:16 pm

I want a permanent job back doing what I love (product buying for retail) where I know my experience and personality can make a difference. Good luck to everyone else out there looking for the same thing!

  615. Iona JarvisFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:16 pm

As I am in the process of selling my house before I am evicted I would love to find somewhere really nice to live (that I can afford). I would also love to be in a position to start a job where I can earn the qualifications that say I can do what I am capable of doing plus more/new skills and to end up in the position of embarking on a career.
I would also love my son to stay in contact with me and to one day have some respect for me.

  616. Azmol AliFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:17 pm

For 2014 I would like a winning year for British sports. There’s nothing better at getting everyone excited then when our teams are winning. I know this will get everyone jolly and spending money, which is good for the economy! I hope to use the prize to be in a job in time to be cheering England to victory in Rio!!!!

  617. Janelle MottleyFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:17 pm

What would I like to see in 2014? Well, first of all I would like to see that the economy gets better so that everyone can have a job regardless of their social status without having to worry about job security or paying bills. Second, I would also like to see a change in government whereby the politicians REALLY listen more to what the people are saying and what they need rather than thinking about their own self-interests. Finally third, I would like it if people were able to treat each other more kindly and wasn’t so materialistic and greedy. I know these things won’t happen, but I guess you gotta live in hope right?

  618. Dave PalmerFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:18 pm

I would like to see 2014 become the year that there actually is ‘work for all’. For the segregation barriers and labelling to come tumbling down and everyone be measured for ‘what’ they can offer employers and not; how old they are?, what sex they are?, are they disabled?, are they experienced? – and the list goes on. Not everyone can afford third level education but that does not mean to say that, given the chance, anyone can gain experience through employment. They just need a chance to prove their worth.
Fairytale I know, but would be nice.

  619. Tyler johnsonFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:18 pm

I spent last year and a bit of this year in the millitary prep college , sadly got turned away from the army, for medical reasons, so 2014 is going to be a fresh start. Im going to look into other career paths. Im currently claiming job seekers alounce and i am not liking it at all, i dont have much experience in anything usefull but i need a job or mabey futher education to help me sucsseed in life. Nobody wants to fail in life.

  621. Steve WebsterFriday, 13 Dec, 2013 at 3:19 pm

I would like 2014 to be a year of constant employment for me to improve upon the skills I have gained on the Work Programme. I would also like to be re-united with my two daughters for whom I gave up my career in order to raise and take care of, leaving me facing the difficlty of finding employment now due to a lack of skills.
